We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Video Editor.

In this role, the successful candidate The Social Media team within NYU Langone Healths Department of Communications, Marketing, Government and Community Affairs is seeking a highly skilled, experienced, Social Media Videographer and Editor to elevate the institutions video storytelling through best-in-class filming, editing, narrative development, and post-production execution across our social media channels.

Reporting to the Director, Cross-Channel Content Strategy, this role is central to transforming video capture and raw footage into compelling, emotionally resonant content that supports NYU Langones mission across patient care, research, and education. The position combines hands‑on filming and editorial expertise with a strong understanding of social media, audience engagement and platform best practices, ensuring content is optimized for performance across various social media channels.

The ideal candidate is a highly experienced videographer, editor, and storyteller who thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings a sharp instinct for social content, and is equally comfortable executing quick‑turn social content and more complex, cinematic pieces.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the filming, editing, and creative development of social‑first video content, shaping story, pacing, tone, and format for a variety of digital platforms.
  • Capture high-quality video content and execute post‑production from rough cut through final delivery, ensuring videos are optimized for channel‑specific requirements, aspect ratios, and audience behavior.
  • Execute shoots with a strong understanding of camera operation, composition, lighting, audio, and visual storytelling, adapting production approaches to different environments and content needs.
  • Transform raw footage into polished, engaging videos using strong editorial judgment and a clear understanding of social storytelling.
  • Capture and edit short‑form videos for social media, including reels, shorts, explainers, promos, event recaps, and reactive or trend‑based content.
  • Partner with producers, videographers, social media strategists, and communications teams to translate institutional priorities into compelling digital stories.
  • Apply platform best practices and emerging social trends to maximize reach, engagement, and performance.
  • Help streamline editing workflows for social content, improving efficiency, speed, and consistency across high‑volume production needs.
  • Help expand internal editing capabilities while maintaining high production standards.
  • Manage media assets, project organization, and delivery protocols in alignment with team and DAM standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree
  • 5 years of experience as an editor, working in production, a studio, or field work
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere and familiarity with the other Creative Cloud products
  • Strong knowledge of After Effects
  • Knowledge of video codecs, frame rates, trans‑coding and basic technical specifications for video
  • A genuine interest in storytelling related to health, science and research
  • Experience with media asset management systems (such as Brightcove and MerlinOne) and post‑production workflows for web/social
  • Professional appearance; upbeat and positive attitude
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to think proactively and prioritize work
  • Ability to manage a large content library and to recall details about multiple projects at once
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; equally comfortable working independently and collaboratively
  • Eager and able to understand the structure of a large organization
  • Ability and eagerness to meet deadlines while remaining collected at stressful times
  • Ability to solve problems and troubleshoot within a team of creative personalities
  • Performs other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in film, media production, communications, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of professional video editing experience, with significant experience creating content for social platforms
  • Preferred filming and video editing experience within healthcare, higher education, media, or agency environments
  • Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro; strong working knowledge of After Effects, Photoshop, and audio editing tools
  • Demonstrated experience editing short‑form, social‑first content
  • Strong understanding of pacing, narrative structure, music selection, and emotional tone that drive engagement on social platforms
  • Experience with color correction, audio mixing, and finishing workflows
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; comfortable working with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong understanding of social media trends, audience behaviors, and content optimization strategies
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
