Assistant Vice President, Operations-Community Medical Center

As an Assistant Vice President of Operations, you will drive leadership and operational excellence across a broad spectrum of clinical services at Community Medical Center—including Rehabilitation, Respiratory, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Radiology, Audiology, and Palliative Care & Hospice. In this pivotal role, you will champion day-to-day administration, streamline patient flow, and optimize resource allocation to maximize clinical efficiency and deliver top-tier patient care. Anchored in the mission, vision, and values of Community Medical Center and the RWJBarnabas Health System, you will design and execute forward-thinking operational strategies that fuel long-term growth. You will also manage departmental budgets with sharp fiscal responsibility and use data-driven processes to continuously elevate efficiency and patient safety.

As the Assistant Vice President of operations, a typical day might include the following:

  • Cross-Functional Alignment Meetings: Collaborate with service line executives, nursing leadership, and independent physicians to streamline integrated care strategies and dismantle operational silos.
  • Financial & Productivity Reviews: Analyze key financial performance indicators, approve resource allocations, adjust staffing mixes based on current patient volume, and evaluate vendor contracts for cost-saving opportunities.
  • Regulatory Readiness Check-ins: Review quality improvement data and audit departmental processes to ensure complete, continuous alignment with the Joint Commission (JC) and state health regulations.
  • Strategic Growth & Program Design: Dedicate time to market trend analysis, reviewing business cases or budget proposals for a new clinical programs, or mapping out capital investments for long-term expansion.
  • Leadership & Talent Development: Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions with department directors to resolve personnel grievances, mentor emerging leaders, and build a cohesive, accountable management team.
  • Executive Status Updates: Prepare high-level operational reports for the executive team, outlining progress on strategic goals and demonstrating the successful resolution of complex, overlapping projects.

The role might be a fit for you if:

  • Proven Multi-Department Clinical Leadership: Your background in managing complex, multidisciplinary clinical and administrative operations translates directly to providing leadership over the role’s specific portfolio (including Radiology, Pharmacy, Laboratory, and Rehabilitation Services).
  • Expertise in Financial Oversight & Fiscal Responsibility: Your experience managing substantial department budgets aligns with the requirement to direct annual operating and capital budgets, analyzing key financial indicators, and optimizing resource allocation to uncover fiscal efficiencies.
  • Strategic Alignment & System Growth: Having navigated large hospital systems like RWJBarnabas Health, you have the exact experience needed to promote "systemness," collaborate with executive teams, and implement strategic growth initiatives that align with the organization's mission and values.
  • Commitment to High-Reliability & Quality Operations: Your background in patient flow and regulatory compliance prepares you to foster high-reliability thinking, manage patient-centric care models, and ensure continuous readiness for strict regulatory bodies like the Joint Commission (JC) and OSHA.
  • Team Building & Talent Development: Your career focus on leading large teams positions you to effectively recruit, mentor, and build a cohesive, accountable leadership team among the department directors under your purview.
  • Resilient, High-Volume Execution: Your established skill set in handling high-level strategy and overlapping administrative demands matches the execution criteria to manage multiple complex projects with urgency, accuracy, and strong problem-solving skills.

Qualified candidates for the Assistant Vice President of Operations position should hold a bachelor's degree, with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Health Administration (MHA) preferred.
