POSITION OVERVIEW
NorthStar Public Schools is seeking a dependable, safe, and friendly School Van Driver to safely transport students to and from school, special events, and extra-curricular activities. The ideal candidate prioritizes student safety above all else, maintains a clean and orderly vehicle, and enjoys interacting with kids in a positive, supportive way.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safe Transportation: Safely operate a multi-passenger school van along designated daily routes, adhering strictly to traffic laws and school district safety protocols.
  • Student Supervision: Maintain a calm, safe, and positive environment inside the vehicle. Ensure all passengers wear seatbelts properly at all times.
  • Vehicle Maintenance & Inspection: Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (checking fluids, tires, lights, brakes, and emergency equipment). Keep the interior clean and free of debris. Make sure the battery is charged.
  • Attendance & Logs: Accurately record student attendance, mileage, and any incidents or delay reports.
  • Child Safety Checks: Inspect the entire vehicle after every single route to ensure no child or personal belongings are left behind.
  • Communication: Promptly report vehicle maintenance issues, accidents, route hazards, or student behavioral concerns to supervisor and administration.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
Required

  • License & History: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of licensed driving experience (experience operating larger vehicles or transporting passenger groups is a plus).
  • Background Check: Must pass comprehensive criminal background checks.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods, perform basic vehicle inspections, and assist students in getting in/out of the vehicle or securing seatbelts if needed.
  • Skills: Excellent punctuality, strong communication skills, and a patient, gentle demeanor when working with children.
  • A strong commitment to driving diversity, equity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging within our school community.

Highly Preferred
  • Familiarity with the North Minneapolis community.
COMPENSATION
Salary: $25/hour
*To establish equitable salary practices, the compensation package is derived from the Regional NorthStar Public Schools pay scale and benefits package, which includes medical, dental, life, long-term disability, and retirement benefits, as well as an annual salary review and revision.
