Job description

ASRC Federal Advanced Research is currently seeking an Electrical Technician to support autonomy vehicle integrations in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Considering the state of the world today, military technical innovation is critical to defending our territories and those of our allies. The US Army is currently exploring advancements to equip ground combat forces with autonomous vehicle platforms. This effort presents a unique opportunity for civilians to participate in the research and development efforts that will shape future battlefield combat platforms. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical services in the areas of electrical and electronic engineering technician support in assisting engineers in the design, development and repair of electrical and electronic equipment for military, commercial, construction and prototype vehicle platforms.
  • Provide technical services in troubleshooting and diagnosis of complex electrical and electronic problems of vehicle systems and provide solutions to remedy them.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers in the design, integration, fabrication and installation of:

(a) Primary Vehicle Electrical and Electronic Systems: to include the modifications of power sources, power supplies, generation and distribution of power throughout the vehicle, to include: wiring harnesses, cables, relays, breakers, batteries, generators, distribution boxes, and addition of power sources for auxiliary systems such as Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and communication systems.

(b) Secondary Vehicle Electrical and Electronic Systems: to include integration of controls, switching devices for communication systems, computers, radios, vision systems, monitors, keyboards and other Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation system antennas and power supplies.

  • Fabricate cables, harnesses, switches, relays, and control devices for the purpose of demonstrating the intent of a design or concept.
  • Apply IPC specifications and methodology to produce mil-spec compliant cable assemblies.
  • Ability to fabricate simple cable harnesses and electronics enclosures based on drawings with support from experienced technicians. Will be expected to assist with vehicle integrations and be familiar with vehicle electronics systems under the guidance of an experienced technician.
  • Test developed systems IAW with engineering requirements specified in drawings and test plans.

Required Qualifications

  • Capable of standing all day and lifting 45 lbs.
  • High school diploma and 5 years of experience in the fabrication of MIL-SPEC wiring harnesses or cable assemblies.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Secret Clearance.
  • Willingness to travel CONUS or OCONUS 25% annually.
  • Familiarity with military specific wire harness build guidelines outlined by the following
    • IPC/WHMA-A-620 Requirements and acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies
    • IPC J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies
