Greenwich Country Day School is seeking a dependable and skilled Foreman to join our Facilities team immediately. The Foreman oversees the daily maintenance, safety, and aesthetic appearance of the school campus buildings and grounds. This role combines hands-on labor with supervisory responsibilities, leading a dedicated crew to maintain athletic fields, manage seasonal landscaping, and coordinate school event setups. The Foreman works closely with the Director and other Facilities leadership and external vendors to ensure peak operational efficiency and emergency readiness across all campus properties.
Key Responsibilities
Team Supervision & Operations
  • Crew Leadership: Direct, supervise, and evaluate the daily work of the maintenance crew.
  • Administrative Approvals: Assign overtime as required.
  • Work Order Management: Create, receive, delegate, and track campus work orders to completion using maintenance work order software.
  • Budget Support: Review vendor orders for competitive pricing, research suppliers, and assist the Director in creating the annual project capital list.
Event Coordination & Logistics
  • Event Management: Attend, manage, and coordinate setups for the majority of campus events.
  • Resource Procurement: Manage the ordering of tables, chairs, and specialized equipment for school events.
  • Traffic & Parking: Oversee campus parking and traffic flow, including the creation and designation of staff parking locations during school events.
Athletics & Specialized Facilities
  • Field Maintenance: Manage maintenance of all playing fields, including lining sports fields, maintenance of turf fields, and ordering field equipment.
  • Athletic Liaison: Collaborate closely with Athletic Directors to coordinate field usage.
  • Asset Inspections: Schedule regular inspections and necessary repairs for campus bleachers, basketball backboards/hoops/ tennis courts, and playground.
  • Indoor Facilities: Coordinate routine inspections, refacing, resurface, and repairs for gymnasium floors.
Campus Safety, Systems & Utilities
  • Fire & Safety Systems: Maintain a strong working knowledge of fire alarm systems. Assist in all Fire Drills and Lockdowns.
  • Emergency Response: Respond immediately to all school emergencies and critical incidents as needed.
  • Winter Operations: Assist and execute comprehensive snow removal and salting strategies for campus roads and walkways.
Landscaping & Infrastructure Maintenance
  • Vendor Management: Supervise the third-party landscape company and oversee their yearly contracts.
  • Agronomic Care: Apply knowledge of turf management and oversee comprehensive campus tree management.
  • General Duties: Perform all standard physical duties of a hands-on grounds team member and assist the Director of Facilities with special projects.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • At least 5 - 10 years' experience in commercial groundskeeping, landscaping, or school facilities maintenance.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience leading a maintenance crew.
  • Proficiency with digital work order systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge of turf management, sports field layout, and light machinery operation.
  • Familiarity with facility safety systems, specifically fire alarm operations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or early mornings for event coverage and winter snow emergencies.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to coordinate effectively with vendors and school administrators.
  • Valid Driver's License
