Description
Under general supervision, to operate heavy power-driven street construction equipment as a major assignment; or to supervise and participate in the construction and maintenance of public works facilities and services; and to do other related work as required in street and parks maintenance. A position in the Maintenance Worker III class is distinguished from Maintenance Worker I and II positions by the responsibility for operating heavy power-driven construction equipment, such as a motor grader. This position is also responsible for finishing construction work in exact compliance with specifications. Also to act as a lead worker, supervising subordinate maintenance personnel in performance of skilled activities in public works facilities.
Minimum Qualifications & Examples of Duties
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Experience: Applicable time as a city employee or 5 years of experience in construction work, parks, grounds, and pool maintenance, or other related experience for the type of work listed.
Experience with heavy machinery such as; backhoe, forklift, and tractor.
Licenses/Certificates:
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.

Duties:
  • Operates power-driven equipment that may include backhoe, motor graders, tractors, and rollers.
  • May assist in the performance of mechanical repair duties.
  • Supervise and assist a small crew in construction, maintenance or repair of public works facilities; tree trimming/removal; installing or raising manholes; and ensuring that an accurate record of time and materials is kept.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Refer to the Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) between the City of Kingsburg and the Kingsburg Public Service Employees Associationthat sets forth the full and only agreement on wages, hours and terms and conditions of employment that are subject to negotiation between the ASSOCIATION and the CITY.
Salary: Candidates are normally hired at the minimum of the salary range. Salary increases are given when the employee's work performance has been satisfactory as determined by a regularly scheduled performance evaluation. A salary increase may be granted after six months. The City has a 5 step salary range with 5% increments between steps. Bilingual skills 2.5% incentive pay available. 2% COLA 1/1/26, 2% COLA 7/1/26, 2% COLA 1/1/2027, 2% COLA 7/1/27.
Retirement: The City of Kingsburg is a member of the California Public Employees Retirement System. Employees eligible for "Classic" membership are covered under the 2% at 55 plan and all other employees will be covered under the 2.0% at 62 years of age.
Insurance: For Regular full-time employees the City offers medical, dental and vision care. The employee only rate is $49.27 and the family rate is $151.55, which is automatically payroll deducted, pre-tax, on a bi-weekly basis. The City pays for $15,000 in life insurance for those who qualify and $10,000 for non-qualifying employees. A supplemental life insurance policy for employees and dependents may be purchased through payroll deductions.
Holidays: Regular full-time employees receive 14 paid holidays and 1 paid birthday floating holiday per year.
Vacation: Regular full-time employees accrue 12 days vacation per year for years 1-5. Years 6-12 accrue an additional 1 day per year. From years 13-20 an employee accrues 20 days per year. At year 20, an employee accrues 25 days per year.
Sick Leave: Regular full-time employees accrue 15 sick days per year. At retirement, unused sick leave may be applied toward retirement or cashed out (refer to the current MOU for details).
Employee Assistance Program: Confidential program provided at no cost to employees and their applicable family members.
Longevity: Employees shall receive a stipend upon completion of the following consecutive full-time years of active service with the City of Kingsburg:
  • Five (5) years of service: $500
  • Ten (10) years of service: $1,000
  • Fifteen (15) years of service: $1,500
  • Twenty (20) years of service: $2,000
  • Twenty-five (25) years of service: $2,500
  • Thirsty (30) years of service: $3,000

Tuition Reimbursement: A tuition reimbursement plan is available for work-related study for up to $5,250 per fiscal year.
The City participates in Medicare and Social Security.
