Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Senior ITS/Traffic Manager to support and manage Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSMO), Traffic Management Center (TMC), Traffic Incident Management (TIM), traffic signal operations, and transportation technology projects throughout Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

This position is responsible for managing transportation operations and technology projects from planning through implementation, leading multidisciplinary project teams, supporting client relationships, and overseeing the deployment and operation of transportation technologies. The successful candidate will work closely with state DOTs, local governments, transportation operations personnel, public safety agencies, and AECOM technical staff to deliver projects that improve roadway safety, mobility, reliability, and operational performance.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in ITS technologies, TMC operations, traffic signal systems, transportation technology integration, communications infrastructure, transportation data systems, and project management. This role combines technical leadership, team management, and client engagement to support transportation operations programs across the Southeast.

Project Management

  • Manage ITS, TSMO, TMC, traffic operations, and transportation technology projects from planning through implementation and closeout.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, resource plans, and staffing assignments.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams consisting of engineers, transportation operations specialists, technicians, software/integration specialists, and subconsultants.
  • Monitor project performance, budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution.
  • Support proposal development, client pursuits, project interviews, and business development activities.

ITS & Transportation Technology

  • Manage projects involving ITS infrastructure, transportation communications networks, traffic signal systems, traffic management systems, and transportation technology platforms.
  • Support deployment and integration of CCTV cameras, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), traffic detection systems, traveler information systems, connected device technologies, and related ITS infrastructure.
  • Oversee field investigations, system testing, technology deployment activities, and operational acceptance of transportation systems.
  • Manage transportation technology initiatives involving data integration, system interoperability, asset management, performance monitoring, and operational reporting.
  • Support implementation of emerging transportation technologies, cloud-based applications, operational analytics, and connected transportation systems.

Traffic Operations, TMC & TSMO

  • Manage and support projects involving Traffic Management Center (TMC) operations, transportation systems management and operations (TSMO), and regional traffic operations programs.
  • Assist clients with transportation operations assessments, operational improvements, TMC procedures, performance reporting, and operational planning initiatives.
  • Support development and implementation of operational workflows, standard operating procedures, asset management systems, and reporting processes.
  • Coordinate with transportation agencies, law enforcement, emergency management agencies, and other stakeholders on transportation operations projects.
  • Support transportation operations activities during special events, emergency incidents, severe weather events, and other operational situations as required.

Traffic Signal Operations

  • Manage projects involving signal system operations, corridor management, signal timing implementation, and operational performance evaluation.
  • Support corridor and intersection performance reviews using transportation data, ATSPM systems, and operational analytics.
  • Coordinate with state and local agencies to identify and implement operational improvements.
  • Support maintenance, operations, and modernization initiatives for traffic signal and ITS infrastructure.

Client & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Serve as project manager and primary client contact for assigned transportation operations and technology projects.
  • Coordinate with state DOTs, local governments, MPOs, public safety agencies, and transportation stakeholders throughout Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
  • Lead project meetings, workshops, presentations, and stakeholder coordination efforts.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for additional services and project growth.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor ITS engineers, traffic engineers, transportation operations specialists, technicians, and project staff.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality review of project deliverables.
  • Support staff development, project staffing, recruiting, and resource planning.
  • Foster collaboration among transportation operations, engineering, technology, and field services staff.
    Qualifications

    Minimum:

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Business Information Systems, Computer Science, Transportation, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
    • 8 years of progressive experience in ITS, traffic operations, TMC operations, transportation technology, transportation systems integration, traffic signal systems, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
    • Experience in managing transportation technology, ITS, traffic operations, or transportation infrastructure projects.
    • Experience working with state DOTs, local governments, transportation agencies, and operational stakeholders.
    • Experience and proficiency in transportation technologies, communications systems, operational software platforms, and ITS infrastructure.
    • Experienced in leadership and project management.
    • Valid US Driver's License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites. As a condition of employment, the selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

    Preferred:

    • Professional Engineer (PE), PMP, or equivalent professional certification.
    • Experience supporting or managing Traffic Management Center (TMC) operations.
    • Experience with Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSMO) programs.
    • Experience with traffic signal operations, corridor management, or signal performance measures.
    • Experience with ITS communications networks, fiber infrastructure, CCTV systems, DMS systems, detection technologies, and transportation management systems.
    • Experience with transportation technology integration, operational analytics, asset management systems, and transportation data platforms.
    • IMSA, ATSSA, ITS, TIM, or related transportation certifications.
    • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, transportation reporting systems, data integration, or cloud-based transportation applications.
    Additional Information
    • Relocation allowance is not an option for this position.
