Job Description

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Monitoring of Plant Production Operations:

· Accountable for the production, safety and quality performance of the team primarily on evening / night shifts

· Help plan the daily activities of production staff, issues work assignments accordingly

· Maintain proper coverage by managing production staffing schedules

· Coordinate and lead production startups, shutdowns and changeovers

· Complete regular checks of staff and equipment throughout the shift to ensure that standard operating procedures are followed and Company quality standards are met

· Responds to production issues or alarms and leads investigations as necessary

· Assure that production employees work safely and follow established safety procedures

· Assure that established environmental procedures are followed and recordkeeping requirements are met

· Other duties as assigned by the Crush Superintendent, Refinery Manager and/or Manager, Plant Operations (Canola)

Reporting and Communication:

· Collect shift productivity information and records it in the plant’s data management system

· Serve as the liaison between the Plant Manager, Assistant Plang Manager and the production staff

· Notify department Managers, Plant Manager, Assistant Plant Manager and SHE Manager of potential safety hazards, operational inconsistencies and employee incidents

· Report and follows up on any manufacturing equipment issues to maintenance staff

· Ensure Investigations and reports for safety and environmental accidents and near-misses are completed on time

Training and Coaching:

· Deliver job-related training to production staff to increase efficiency and safety

· Coach staff on the Company’s performance expectations and provides ongoing performance feedback

· Set a positive leadership example for working safely, conducts shift safety meetings

· Create a productive, safe and efficient shift culture through recognition, investigation, education and motivation

General Production Support:

· Hands on to assist operators and shift leads with production functions or tasks as necessary (can include…shoveling product, unblocking chutes, handling materials, operating equipment etc.)

· Ability to perform hands on work in various working conditions. Ie. Confined spaces, work at heights, cold weather conditions.

· Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

Qualifications

· Previous production/processing work experience in an industrial setting is considered to be an asset, preferably in the oil seed processing or biodiesel industry

· Must have a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent

· Must have a proven track record of successfully implementing effective production practices

· Must be able to work a non-conventional work schedule exclusively between Thursday and Tuesday weekly, on a night shift to support evening continuous operations. Saturday and Sundays included on an afternoon shift to ensure adequate rest between shifts. Standard days off would be Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

· Sound decision-making leadership abilities, in the absence of senior leadership during the evening/night hours

· Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures and machinery

· General knowledge of Process Safety Management

· General knowledge of the regulatory requirements the facility operates under (e.g., Sask work safe, Haccp, Sask environment)

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Must be able to withstand extended periods of walking and standing.

· Must be able to move, lift, push, pull and grasp manufacturing materials, products and equipment of 50 lbs or more, which may require regular bending and crouching.

· Able to thrive and work in diverse, challenging and changing environments, including hot/cold outdoors/indoors, varying degrees of dirt, dust, odor, sound, etc.

· Excellent time management, problem-solving and trouble shooting skills

· Proven leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and lead by example

· Reliable and dedicated team-player

· Ability to withstand extended periods of walking and standing

· Ability to climb stairs and ladders

· Strong proficiency with entire Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
