Qualifications and Competencies

•     Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

•     Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.

•     At least 1-2 years of nonprofit accounting experience.

•     Demonstrated experience with general accounting and grant accounting.

•     Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting.

•     Experience preparing audit schedules and supporting annual audits.

•     Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

•     Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

•     Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

Preferred

•     Experience with federal grants and Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of GA's financial records while ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), nonprofit accounting standards, and federal, state, and local grant requirements. This position plays a critical role in financial reporting, grant accounting, budgeting, audit preparation, internal controls, and month-end close processes.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, experience analyzing multiple funding sources, and the ability to work collaboratively with program personnel and executive leadership to support GA's mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain transactions to process in Bill.com & QuickBooks Online

•     Ensure financial “syncs” occur and troubleshoot exceptions.

•     Review purchase orders for accuracy and completeness.

•     Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.

•     Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and support schedules.

•     Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts.

•     Review accounts payable, receivable, payroll allocations, and other accounts.

•     Assist with cash flow monitoring and financial forecasting.

•     Track revenues and expenditures by grant and funding source.

•     Ensure expenditures comply with grant agreements, uniform guidance, and applicable regulations.

•     Assist in preparation of financial reports and reimbursement requests including analysis of grant outstanding balances.

•     Monitor grant budgets and communicate budget variances or shortfalls to Chief of Staff, Financial Controller & CEO.

•     Support grant audits and financial monitoring.

•     Assist in preparation monthly financial statements and management reports.

•     Analyze financial results and identify trends or unusual variances.

•     Assist with organizational budgeting and forecasting.

•     Develop financial schedules for leadership and Board reporting.

•     Assist in preparing annual audit schedules and assist external auditors.

•     Support schedule preparation for Form 990 schedules and other regulatory filings.

•     Assist in strengthening and maintaining internal accounting controls.

•     Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.

•     Partner with program managers to ensure accurate grant spending.

•     Assist financial controller in preparing financial presentations.

•     Provide financial insight regarding allowable costs and budget management.

•     Assist with implementation of financial policies and procedures.
