An Assistant to Attorney, often called a legal assistant or legal secretary, provides administrative and clerical support to lawyers in law firms or legal departments. Their responsibilities typically include managing schedules, preparing legal documents, filing paperwork, conducting basic legal research, and communicating with clients. This role helps attorneys stay organized and ensures that legal processes run smoothly and efficiently.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of an assistant to attorney, and how does this role support legal teams?

As an Assistant to Attorney, your daily tasks often include managing schedules, preparing legal documents, organizing case files, and handling client communications. You’ll play a key role in ensuring attorneys stay organized and meet deadlines, which may involve coordinating meetings, filing court documents, and conducting basic research. This position frequently requires working closely with other legal staff, such as paralegals and legal secretaries, to ensure smooth workflow and support for active cases. Attention to detail and strong multitasking abilities are essential, as you may be juggling several tasks at once in a fast-paced environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a polished litigation legal assistant to join a sophisticated boutique practice handling Chapter 11 bankruptcy and related commercial matters. Position Overview

The Legal Assistant will provide comprehensive administrative and litigation support to attorneys handling complex Chapter 11 bankruptcy matters and related proceedings. The position requires someone who is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing busy attorney calendars and deadline-driven matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, revise, and format correspondence, letters, pleadings, and other legal documents.

  • Calendar and monitor court deadlines, filing dates, hearings, and other critical dates.

  • Prepare engagement and retainer letters and assist with opening new matters.

  • Coordinate and schedule hearings, depositions, client meetings, and conferences.

  • Handle electronic filing of documents with federal and state courts.

  • Maintain organized electronic case files and ensure documents are properly saved and maintained.

  • Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other professionals.

  • Assist attorneys with hearing, deposition, and case preparation.

  • Manage attorney calendars and assist with day-to-day practice organization.

  • Provide additional administrative and litigation support as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Several years of legal assistant experience in a sophisticated litigation practice.

  • Chapter 11 or bankruptcy experience is preferred but not required.

  • Strong commercial litigation experience will be considered in lieu of bankruptcy-specific experience.

  • Experience with court filings, calendaring, hearing coordination, and litigation procedures.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • High level of attention to detail and ability to work independently.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal document management systems.

Compensation & Work Environment
  • Salary in the mid to high $70,000s, commensurate with experience.

  • Full-time position based in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

  • Opportunity to join a highly regarded boutique firm handling sophisticated Chapter 11 and commercial matters.

  • Professional, collaborative environment offering meaningful responsibility and direct attorney interaction.
