Product Engineer, Forest Park (Atlanta), GA

Established in 1952, FELLFAB ยฎ is a privately held company that engineers and manufactures innovative products from technical and specialized textiles. We are more than a manufacturer of specialized textile products. We are an engineering company dedicated to working with our customers. We believe in establishing long-term relationships based on providing purpose-built solutions.

We are currently recruiting for a PRODUCT ENGINEER to join our team in Forest Park, Georgia.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Product Engineer will be responsible for planning, cost estimating, product development/implementation, and maintaining Engineering requirements for new and existing products. While not mandatory, the ideal candidate will have a background in engineered textiles.

Your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop new drawings using 2D and 3D programs and modify and/or make improvements to existing drawings.
  • Design and develop, manually or electronically, patterns using the Investronica and/or Optitex system to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Develop and maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs) within ERP system.
  • Create and assign part numbers within ERP System (SyAcc).
  • Determine cost estimates for Request for Quotes (RFQs) and Engineering Change Request (ECR).
  • Develop, maintain and issue special/unique packaging instructions to Production.
  • Maintain Engineering documentation and records.
  • Liaise with internal departments to ensure that technical information is communicated and that designs are created for manufacturability and repeatability (Ex. assist Production with the interpretation of customer drawings and specifications).
  • Design, create, and coordinate the first article and sample process.
  • Provide external technical support to Sales through field visits, customer meetings, and design reviews, including the measuring of aircraft for carpet and other textile related products.
  • Initiate and drive engineering continuous improvement plans to eliminate waste and cost in product designs.
  • Provide backup and other duties as required.

Educational and Work History Requirements:

  • Post secondary education and/or College Diploma in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or Textile Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Product Engineering with a background in drawings, product design, costing, BOMs, and material selection requirements.
  • Previous engineering experience in an industrial textile environment and/or within airline or rail interiors.
  • Previous hands-on experience in patterning, marker making, and computerized cutting systems.
  • Previous hands-on experience using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, ENOVIA.
  • Knowledge of costing models and material and labor standards for BOM creation.
  • Experience with test data, certification procedures, and documentation requirements as it relates to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and/or Rail Transportation Authority.
  • Must be capable of working individually and in a Team setting with shop floor personnel, Supervisors, Managers, Suppliers and Customers.

Mandatory (must have) Knowledge/Skills/Experience/Abilities Required:

  • Minimum 3 years of CAD hands-on experience creating 2D/3D engineering drawings using (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, or ENOVIA).
  • Experience creating BOMโ€™s and setting up part numbering production structures.
  • Costing estimating of material and labor for quotations and BOM creation.
  • Competent working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Good communication skills (verbally & written) to communicate with internal & external customers, incl. Management & Shop Floor Personnel.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, work on various projects at any given time and make technical decisions.

Preferred (nice to have) Knowledge/Skills/Experience/Abilities Required:

  • LEAN manufacturing experience with a proven track record of implementing continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Creating product specifications and test plans.

Other Assets may include:

  • Engineering and textile related experience within the rail industry
  • Engineering and textile design experience within the Military (Department of Defense)
