Key Responsibilities

A successful candidate will support the engineering, reliability, and continuous improvement of field network and centralized technology services. Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate as the highest priority.
  • Assist with technical analysis, design documentation, testing, implementation planning, and lifecycle activities for field network and centralized technology solutions.
  • Support routing, switching, SD-WAN, wireless, microwave, radio, fiber, monitoring, and related network technologies based on assigned work and business needs.
  • Gather technical and business requirements and help document existing conditions, proposed solutions, design assumptions, dependencies, risks, and implementation considerations.
  • Create and maintain network diagrams, equipment records, technical procedures, implementation documents, test results, as-built information, and other engineering documentation.
  • Assist experienced technical resources with evaluating network technologies, equipment, software, and services for potential use within the field network environment.
  • Participate in laboratory testing, proof-of-concept activities, technical validation, and field verification of network solutions.
  • Support development and maintenance of engineering standards, configuration guidance, deployment practices, and technical documentation.
  • Assist with technology lifecycle planning by gathering inventory, software, supportability, performance, capacity, end-of-life, and end-of-support information.
  • Participate in field network projects by supporting technical planning, scheduling, procurement information, vendor coordination, implementation readiness, documentation, testing, and project closeout activities.
  • Work with Field Network Operations, FNOC, Enterprise Network, Cybersecurity, Automation, ORCM, business units, vendors, and other technical teams to support assigned work and resolve technical issues.
  • Review monitoring, incident, configuration, and performance information to help identify recurring issues, technical risks, capacity concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support troubleshooting and problem analysis for complex or recurring network issues, with escalation and guidance from experienced technical resources as appropriate.
  • Assist with automation, reporting, data analysis, and process-improvement activities that improve network reliability, visibility, documentation, or engineering efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate work records and documentation in approved IT service management, project, asset, monitoring, and collaboration platforms.
  • Continue developing technical knowledge across field networking, telecommunications, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and oil and gas operating environments.
  • Perform other duties as requested by manager.

Required Qualifications:

  • Foundational knowledge of information technology, networking, telecommunications, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Ability to apply academic, technical, or practical knowledge to defined problems with guidance from experienced technical resources.
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP, IP addressing, routing, switching, WAN, LAN, wireless, or related network concepts.
  • Ability to gather technical information, organize findings, identify relevant details, and document conclusions clearly.
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate technical documentation, diagrams, procedures, records, and work notes.
  • Ability to follow established engineering, cybersecurity, change-management, safety, and documentation practices.
  • Ability to participate effectively in technical projects, testing activities, troubleshooting efforts, and cross-team work.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, communicate status, meet deadlines, and request guidance when technical or business risks are identified.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, field personnel, business stakeholders, vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new network technologies, tools, processes, and oil and gas operating environments.

  • College degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Internship, academic, laboratory, military, or work experience involving networking, telecommunications, infrastructure, information technology, or engineering.
  • Exposure to Cisco routing and switching, SD-WAN, wireless networking, microwave, two-way radio, private LTE, fiber optics, structured cabling, or telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Exposure to network diagrams, technical specifications, equipment inventories, test plans, implementation documents, or as-built documentation.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring, IT service management, asset management, configuration management, or project tracking tools.
  • Exposure to SolarWinds, ServiceNow, Cisco management platforms, Microsoft Visio, Power BI, GIS tools, or similar technical platforms.
  • Experience using Python, PowerShell, APIs, data analysis, or other automation methods to improve repetitive technical processes.
  • Familiarity with technology lifecycle concepts, including inventory, software versions, capacity, reliability, end-of-life, and end-of-support.
  • Exposure to construction, field infrastructure, vendor coordination, commissioning, or project delivery activities.
  • Interest in field network technologies supporting oil and gas production, industrial facilities, remote locations, and business-critical operations.
  • Curiosity for technology, strong interpersonal skills, a continuous-improvement mindset, and the ability to learn from experienced technical resources.
