WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Lead System Design Engineer, you will manage and lead a team of System Design Engineers and System Designers, facilitating project assignments, load distribution and training of staff. You will monitor the performance and quality levels of project designs ensuring they satisfy the prescribed client standards, project-specific requirements, and ZBeta work product quality. The Lead System Design Engineer contributes to the development of ZBeta engineering and technical consulting tools and processes.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Management

  • Lead and manage a team of System Design Engineers & System Designers ensuring all deliverables are met.
  • Evaluate performance on a regular basis; provide performance reviews, set professional development goals, and make recommendations for promotion and recognition.

Design

  • Create, edit, review, and proof ZBeta design and engineering drawings package components: plans, details, diagrams, schedules, estimates, and programming matrices.
  • Participate in project technical architectural design and coordination efforts including those for door hardware, device mounting, mechanical and electrical infrastructure; and structured cabling and network/telecom infrastructure.
  • Present calculations, make recommendations, review, and make comments on architectural specifications, and review and make comments on contractor submittals.

Technical Study

  • Conduct technical studies, such as cable distance and voltage drop calculations; cable fill and conduit sizing calculations; electrical power requirements and heat loading calculations; equipment test fits for wall and rack layouts; camera angle to target and pixels on target; network bandwidth and storage requirements; IDF loading, and systems cost estimation.

Training

  • Develop, manage, and maintain engineering standards, processes, tools, and documentation formats.
  • Maintain staff training and competency levels.
  • Work with staff to build career paths and assist with career development within ZBeta

Monitor Project Performance

  • Commitments and deliverables to ensure the timely delivery of packages.
  • Responsible for project assignments and load distribution to ensure project commitments and quality control standards are met.

Collaborate

  • Guide and mentor System Design Engineers and System Designer staff, identify areas of personal expertise and seek out opportunities to lend expertise to team members.
  • Foster a work atmosphere conducive to collaborative efforts.
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager on projects from design to closeout.

Research & Development

  • Research existing and emerging technologies, maintain familiarity with major products and platforms.

Technical Support

  • Where appropriate, advise on project technical issues and decisions: create options for, evaluate, and facilitate discussions with ZBeta LabZ on project technical solutions.
  • Research and resolve client and project issues related to codes, standards, and regulations applicable to physical security systems.


Requirements:


WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Experience:

  • 5+ years of security system design and/or security technology experience is required
  • 2+ years Revit &/or AutoCAD experience is required
  • Experience managing a team is preferred

Education:

  • Associate degree, Autodesk Certified Professional in Revit for Electrical Design, or relevant work experience

Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in Lenel security system hardware and programming required
  • Genetec, C•CURE, and other security system hardware and programming are a plus

Skills:

  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam and Navisworks
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design software such as Revit & AutoCAD is required
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and work quality

Abilities:

  • Technical aptitude and a facility with software applications are required
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to organize and present design information to clients
