Position Description
This opportunity will provide systems engineering and system-level integration support to MSFC for the SLS Payload Integration group as part of the MSFC Systems Requirements and Verification Branch (EV72) in the MSFC Systems Engineering and Integration Division (EV70). Seeking a highly motivated individual to support hands-on aerospace systems engineering and payload integration efforts related to CubeSats, small satellite missions, and engineering execution. Selected candidate will work directly with a systems integration lead on active projects involving spacecraft interfaces, requirements, testing, and cross-disciplinary coordination.
Tasks:
  • Develop a full process for CubeSat / SmallSat integration activities (mechanical, electrical, and interface)
  • Assist with requirements tracking and verification (ICDs, compliance matrices, etc.)
  • Help develop and review technical documentation (procedures, test plans, verification reports)
  • Conduct engineering trade studies and summarize findings clearly
  • Coordinate across disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software) to resolve integration issues
  • Perform general technical problem solving and support day-to-day engineering tasks

Qualifications
A degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering or related field required. Degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a master's with at least one total year of relevant experience or a BS with at least three total years of relevant experience. Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.
The candidate is required to have:
• Demonstrated experience working across organizational boundaries and engineering disciplines to identify requirements and resolve vehicle/propulsion systems integration issues.
• Excellent oral, written, and customer relation skills, and be proficient using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals (structures, circuits, current state of CubeSat technology)

• Ability to breakdown complex problems or issues into manageable pieces to facilitate resolution of technical concerns.

Desired skill sets (presence of one or more of these qualifications will be used as discriminating factors in selecting applicants):
• Experience with database management. Other desired experience: Digital Engineering tools such as Doors Next Generation (DNG), Jira, Python, Power BI, and MagicDraw.
• Must have some level of knowledge of how to implement Systems Engineering principles.
• Some experience with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) desired.
Essential Functions
Work Environment:
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).
Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
