Job description

Duties Description This position will be held through the Department of Engineering's Office of Design located in the Authority's Administrative Headquarters. The candidate should be knowledgeable of current New York State design standards, procedures and specifications including the Project Design Manual, Standard Specifications, Bridge Manual or Highway Design Manual, AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications or AASHTO Green Book, Standard Sheets and/or Bridge Detail Sheets. Proficiency with MicroStation and Inroads is preferred.

Duties will include but are not limited to the following: Provide professional engineering design services for various bridge repair, rehabilitation, and reconstruction projects of varying complexity in support of the Capital Program. Prepare design reports/studies, plans, specifications, engineer's estimates (PS&E), design calculations and other technical elements of a bridge or highway project. Prepare scopes of services, track progress of projects and evaluate consultants.

Provide construction support as projects progress through construction. Minimum Qualifications Engineer Trainee (Civil/Transportation) SG-18;???. Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as SG-16 or above, and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.???

At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. ADDITIONAL PAY INFORMATION: The salary range for this position includes all applicable annual components of pay which are:. Base Pay Range from Hiring Rate $64,427 up to Job Rate $100,979. Recruitment & Retention Pay: $7,000.

This position may be filled as a traineeship. The starting salaries for this traineeship are outlined below. For current New York State employees, salary is based on the candidate's salary at the time of hire.
