Position Objective:
Swimming Instructors teach FUN, small group classes in our indoor, warm water pools. Swim lessons are taught at the pace of each child depending on age and skill. Aquatic team members will work with the Deck Supervisor and ensure the shifts are being run smoothly. They will serve as an extra set of eyes on deck to help teachers and children when needed. Aquatic team members are expected to follow the Ocaquatics lesson plans, show interest in the progress of their students.
Position Standards:
  • Maintain professional conduct at all times as a competent representative of Ocaquatics Swim School.
  • Agree to work as a team with co-team members in striving to provide the highest quality aquatic program available.
  • Act in a friendly, helpful and courteous manner with families, swimmers, and team.

Position Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
  • Maintain the safety of students in and around the class; follow and implement safetyrules.
  • Build relationships with students, families and team members.
  • Learn and use students' names.
  • Be a good example for students (no horseplay, enter the proper way, etc).
  • Use Ocabulary and positive language.
  • Be able to praise students each day as well as appropriately redirect any off-task behaviors.
  • Smile all day long and show enthusiasm, creativity and excitement when working with students.
  • Take initiative to keep the work area clean and organized.
  • Be prepared to handle emergencies calmly and properly

Extra Eyes:
  • Help to set up during opening and closing times.
  • Help keep the deck tidy and organized. Pick up and clean constantly.
  • Help swimmers get to their classes.
  • Scan the pool at all times and always know the number of swimmers in the pool.
  • Assist teachers by getting the swimming devices they need (goggles, fins, toys, etc).
  • Observe classes and help teachers with difficult classes as directed by the Deck Supervisor.
  • Perform Evaluations on potential swimmers.

Swim Instructor:
  • Teach swim lessons according to the Ocaquatics lesson plans and curriculum.
  • Take notes on a daily basis regarding the progress of your students.
  • Communicate with the Deck Supervisor to consult regarding when a student may be ready to level up, progress, or to express any challenges or injuries, etc.

- Safety: Safety is #1 priority. Awareness of safety issues and be able to follow safety procedures.
- Service: Family and Student Focus. Provide great service to everyone that comes in contact with our school and treat everyone with respect.
- Team: Cooperative. Help fellow team members throughout the day.
- Fun & Friendly: Keep a positive attitude, smile and be courteous with others. Use appropriate language and tone when speaking. Outwardly happy, eager to work everyday, and show energy throughout the shift.

Requirements
  • Must be at least 16 years or older.
  • Must be available weekday afternoons and weekends.
