Job description

Position Overview: The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in managing day-to-day field operations, jobsite coordination, quality control, and safety on assigned construction projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the work is executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with the project schedule, drawings, and specifications. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and eager to grow into a leadership role within field operations.
Responsibilities:
Field Operations
  • Assist the Superintendent in daily oversight of jobsite activities to ensure work progresses according to schedule.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, deliveries, inspections, and site logistics.
  • Monitor work for quality, adherence to plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Support the development and execution of the daily and weekly jobsite schedules.
  • Participate in morning huddles and subcontractor coordination meetings.

Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain a safe and clean jobsite in alignment with OSHA requirements and company safety policies.
  • Assist with daily safety inspections and documentation.
  • Ensure subcontractors follow all project safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions immediately.

Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain daily field reports, manpower logs, and photo documentation.
  • Assist with tracking and verifying field quantities, deliveries, and installation progress.
  • Support the Superintendent and Project Manager with RFIs, punch lists, and closeout documentation.
  • Help prepare for inspections and ensure required documentation is ready.

Quality Control
  • Review work in progress for compliance with approved submittals and project drawings.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving field issues promptly.
  • Help maintain project QC logs and ensure corrective actions are completed.

Site Coordination
  • Oversee site access, security, fencing, signage, and general site organization.
  • Ensure subcontractors have the information and support needed to perform their work efficiently.
  • Assist with coordination of trade sequencing and logistics to minimize conflicts.

Qualifications:
Required
  • 2-4 years of experience in commercial or institutional construction, preferably in a field-based role.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, trades, and sequencing.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Basic proficiency with construction technology (Procore, Bluebeam, Google Workspace/Microsoft Office).
  • Reliable transportation and ability to work on active construction sites daily.

Preferred
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience working in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
  • Experience with government, public school, or institutional projects.
