Job description

Role Overview

As a Bulk Sugar Packaging and Logistics Technician, you’ll keep food-grade sugar moving safely and precisely—from milling and tote filling to loading bulk trailers and railcars. Your work ensures every shipment meets customer specifications and aligns with all regulatory, SQF, and GMP standards.

A Day in the Life

You start your shift by preparing the packaging area, calibrating scales, and staging bulk trailers and railcars. You’ll set up and operate the tote-filling machine, verify weights and measures for dry and liquid sweeteners, and complete quality checks. When adjustments are needed, you’ll update machine settings and record data on a computer. Throughout the day, you’ll coordinate with teammates and leadership, communicate issues early, and keep the area safe and audit-ready. You’ll also support loading of bulk trucks/trailers and railcars with sugar or sugar beet co-products according to customer specifications. As training progresses, you’ll learn to run the powdered sugar mill to consistently produce on-spec product.

What You’ll Do
  • Fill, measure, and verify weights for bulk sugar in trailers and railcars to exact specifications.
  • Load and accurately measure liquid sugar co-products using trailers and railcars.
  • Perform and document quality checks to confirm products meet customer, SQF, and GMP requirements.
  • Complete required documentation and use computers to enter data; adjust machine programming when needed.
  • Set up and operate the sugar tote-filling line efficiently and safely.
  • Train to operate a powdered sugar mill and produce product that meets quality targets.
  • Report equipment or process issues promptly to the team leader and collaborate on solutions.
  • Follow all safety procedures and good manufacturing practices.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned; duties may evolve with business needs.
Qualifications
  • Experience in a production or manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Comfortable using computers daily; able to learn simple programming changes at the machine interface.
  • Understands and can actively promote SQF and GMP quality systems and safety practices; prior quality systems exposure preferred.
  • Ability to complete fork-truck training and maintain a valid fork truck license; willing to drive as required.
  • Available for any shift, with weekend overtime as needed.
  • Able to climb stairs and ladders, use catwalks, bend, and lift regularly.
  • High school diploma preferred.
Key Competencies
  • Team-first mindset; communicates clearly with peers and leaders.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, variable production environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
  • Repetitive lifting or carrying of 40–50 lbs.
  • For items over 50 lbs, use a mechanical assist or work with a teammate.

Note: This description highlights primary responsibilities but isn’t exhaustive; other related duties may be assigned.
