Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Assembler

Job Description

The Mechanical Assembler will work in sub-assembly and general assembly to build large window units using hand and power tools, metal brackets, fasteners, and sealing materials. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, precise use of measuring tools, and careful attention to quality as you assemble, seal, and inspect large glass and sheet metal components. You will contribute to a busy manufacturing operation by meeting daily production goals, supporting multiple areas of the line, and maintaining a positive, flexible approach to changing tasks and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble window units in sub-assembly and general assembly areas using hand and power tools, metal brackets, fasteners, clips, and other hardware.
  • Apply caulking and sealing materials using caulking guns to ensure proper sealing of window units and prevent leaks.
  • Perform testing on caulking products and seals to verify that windows are properly sealed and meet quality standards.
  • Paint the ends of materials as required and work with insulation materials such as large foam pads (not fiberglass) in designated areas.
  • Wrap and net completed units, ensuring proper packaging and protection of large glass and sheet metal components.
  • Inspect components and finished units throughout the assembly process, identifying and addressing any flaws or defects in assembly or final manufacturing.
  • Work safely and precisely with very large pieces of glass, sheet metal, and steel frames, assembling units that are typically waist high and up to approximately 30 feet long.
  • Stand and walk for an 8-hour shift while performing assembly tasks along the production line.
  • Support sub-assembly operations during workflow gaps by assisting in other stages of production as needed.
  • Retrieve materials from the yard and participate in unit testing in outdoor testing booths when required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and use a tape measure accurately to ensure components are cut, fitted, and assembled to specification.
  • Use power tools such as drills and other mechanical tools to perform fitting, fabrication, installation, and assembly tasks.
  • Assist with fitting and fabrication activities, including aligning and securing parts, components, and hardware.
  • Perform basic inspection, troubleshooting, and quality control checks to ensure products meet established standards.
  • Meet daily and overall production goals for assigned departments and assembly lines.
  • Participate in cross-training across various areas of the production process and learn new tasks without complaint.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by moving to any area as needed, including insulation and other specialized sections.
  • Follow feedback from supervisors and leads, incorporating guidance into daily work to improve performance and quality.
  • Maintain a positive, "can do" attitude, strong listening skills, and a team-oriented mindset while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including the proper use of safety glasses, steel-toe footwear, and protective clothing such as Tyvek suits when required.
  • Support material handling tasks as needed, including working both inside the facility and outside in the yard to move or retrieve materials.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with large unit assembly in environments similar to industrial refrigeration, window, or structural fabrication facilities.
  • Computer skills with at least 6 months of experience using basic computer systems in a work setting.
  • Experience in home improvement or construction projects that involve measuring, cutting, and assembling large components.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance practices and documentation in a production environment.
  • Ability to work in multiple departments, including insulation areas using large foam pads and other non-fiberglass materials.
  • Willingness to wear Tyvek suits or similar protective clothing to keep dust off clothing when working with insulation materials.
  • Strong record of reliability and meeting production goals in previous roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with many assemblers and shared production goals.
  • Comfort working in non-climate-controlled facilities and around loud machinery.
