Job description

Office: : Athletics, Physical Education, and Campus Recreation (APER)

Reports to: Director of APER

Work Period: : 11-month

Hours: Full-time

Overtime: Exempt

General Summary:

Provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of the Basketball program, to include coaching the team; planning, organizing, and supervising team practices; actively identifying, evaluating, and recruiting student-athletes; and working within federal, state and local guidelines, office/department, division and college policies and procedures; and the NCAA, athletic conference guidelines. Reports to the director of athletics and works with students, staff, officials, students and coaches from other institutions, parents, faculty, and both on and off-campus constancies.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Coordinates all on and off-campus recruitment activities within the guidelines of the NCAA to ensures the safety and wellness of players and works collaboratively with the Athletic Training staff on effective and holistic preventative and responsive management of injuries.
  2. Complies with all NCAA, Conference, college, department, state and federal regulations and policies and ensures compliance with athletic department facility contracts, scheduling priorities, and guidelines.
  3. Provides leadership and coaching for the intercollegiate Basketball team including the supervises of assistant coaches, volunteers and graduate assistants.
  4. Monitors and actively encourages participants to succeed academically and represent the college with the leadership and integrity, both on and off the court.
  5. Schedules, implements, and attends all pre-season, in-season, post-season practices, contests, team contests as well as coordinates special events, hosts college tournament(s), and relevant camps.
  6. Leads in administrative functions including weekly recruiting contact data, accountability for recruiting/enrollment benchmarks, financial accountability for all ASC and non-ASC Basketball functions hosted by the coach/team/department.
  7. Teaches within the Physical Education curriculum on areas of expertise and/or certification.
  8. Prepares athletes for competition and performs post-season evaluations and oversees strength, conditioning, and nutritional, and financial literacy support for Basketball.
  9. Coordinates team travel arrangements including maintain driver and van certification appropriate legal requirements to drive college vehicles, equipment including care of team uniforms, and care and maintenance of team facilities and equipment.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Undergraduate degree required; masters' degree preferred in related occupational field of study

Experience: Minimum two years of work experience at the collegiate level with proven recruiting experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of fitness concepts and techniques, NCAA rules and regulations, and rules and scoring.
  • Familiarity with recruiting techniques, high school coaches and athletes, and student-athlete concerns.

Other:

  • Irregular hours are required on a regular basis.
  • Travel required from office to other locations on a regular basis.
  • Coaches must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, and have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA and the College with truthful and accurate information regarding rules violations. Coaches may be suspended or terminated if found to be in deliberate or serious violation of NCAA regulations.
  • Coaches will be evaluated through an annual performance appraisal process and are expected to meet annual recruitment and enrollment goals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Expect intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, running, walking, throwing, and occasional lifting of light objects. Work is performed in an office and sports fields, courts, etc.
