Position Details

The Athletics Department at University of Tampa invites applications for a Full-Time Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. This position supports the mission of UTampa Athletics by assisting with the design and implementation of comprehensive strength and conditioning programs that enhance athletic performance, reduce injury risk, and promote the holistic development of all student-athletes. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Director of Sports Performance, sport coaches, athletic trainers, and the Human Performance and Exercise Science Academic Department to integrate athlete testing, data-driven training, and emerging sports technologies into daily operations. This role contributes directly to the advancement of the department's performance science initiatives and the continued success of UTampa's nationally competitive athletic programs.

Responsibilities

Assist in the overall success, performance, and management of the strength and conditioning program for all student-athletes.

Design, implement, and monitor evidence-based strength and conditioning programs for assigned varsity teams under the direction of the Director of Sports Performance.

Plan and lead training sessions that align with sport-specific needs and seasonal demands.

Conduct athlete testing and monitor key performance metrics using technologies such as force plates, GPS systems, and velocity-based tracking tools.

Collaborate with sport coaches, athletic trainers, and the Human Performance Department to enhance athletic performance and implement recovery and injury-prevention strategies.

Provide hands-on instruction in proper lifting techniques, warm-up, mobility, and recovery protocols.

Supervise and mentor graduate interns, student assistants, and part-time staff in the Sports Performance Center.

Maintain and monitor all strength and conditioning equipment to ensure safety and functionality.

Assist with facility organization, cleanliness, and upkeep, and make recommendations for new or replacement equipment as needed.

Maintain records of testing data, training loads, and attendance for assigned teams.

Participate in staff meetings, continuing education, and professional development opportunities.

Support departmental initiatives related to applied sport science, technology integration, and academic collaboration.

Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field (Master'spreferred).

Minimum of one to two years of collegiate or professional strength and conditioning experience.

Current or pursuing CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) certification required.

Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.

Demonstrated experience with athlete testing, sports technology, and data interpretation preferred.

Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.

Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary performance team.

Commitment to the mission, values, and success of University of Tampa and its student-athletes.

Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
