Job description

The Solar Installer is responsible for the safe and efficient installation of residential and small commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This role supports all aspects of the installation process, including mounting solar panels, assembling system components, and ensuring systems are installed in accordance with design specifications, electrical codes, and safety standards.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, comfortable working outdoors and at heights, and has a strong interest in renewable energy and sustainable technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Solar System Installation
  • Install rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV systems according to engineering plans
  • Assemble and secure racking systems, solar panels, and mounting hardware
  • Assist with inverter installation, wiring, and system connections under supervision
Site Preparation & Layout
  • Prepare job sites, including measuring, marking, and staging materials
  • Interpret basic system designs, layouts, and blueprints
  • Ensure proper alignment and spacing of solar arrays
Electrical & System Integration Support
  • Assist licensed electricians with electrical connections and conduit runs
  • Support installation of inverters, disconnects, and monitoring systems
  • Ensure installations meet NEC (National Electrical Code) and local requirements
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all OSHA safety standards and company safety procedures
  • Use fall protection equipment and maintain a safe work environment
  • Conduct job site clean-up and ensure proper disposal of materials
Quality Control & Troubleshooting
  • Inspect installations to ensure quality and compliance with project specifications
  • Identify and report installation issues or defects
  • Assist with system testing and commissioning

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1+ years of experience in:
    • Construction, roofing, electrical, or solar installation (preferred but not required)
  • Ability to work at heights (rooftops, ladders) and lift 50+ lbs
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with solar PV installations
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Basic electrical knowledge or experience assisting electricians
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, and lifting
  • Comfortable working on rooftops and uneven terrain

Salary Description
