POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the general direction of the SACC (School Age Child Care) Director, the SACC Assistant Site Director is responsible for planning, managing and supervising a developmentally appropriate childcare program at one site. The SACC Assistant Site Director will manage all extended care activities and special events, as well as ensuring the health and safety of all children at all times.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assistant Site Directors are responsible for assuming all responsibilities in their directors’ absence.
  • Plan, implement and supervise a developmentally appropriate, fun, and enriching activity curriculum for camp group throughout the summer.
  • Maintain positive relationships with parents and demonstrate positive communication skills that will foster a healthy and comfortable atmosphere.
  • Maintain clean, neat and organized environment acceptable to the YMCA Extended Care Program Director.
  • Promote and supervise the health, emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of each child.
  • Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
  • Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers and require them to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the Y’s disciplinary procedures and respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Communicates to all employees and volunteers the Y’s commitment to protect our members from abuse.
  • Create and maintain a safe, secure and nurturing environment for all program participants.
  • Manage the performance of all staff along with the Extended Care Program Director.
  • Manage and control inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Work with all other staff members in a cooperative effort-TEAMWORK.
  • Attend all staff meetings.
  • Follow personnel policies of the YMCA of Montclair and policies defined in the staff manual.
  • Maintain all required records and logs.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • BA in Education, Child Development, Physical Education, Recreation or related field and two years direct experience with children under age 13, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity OR
  • School Age Child Care credential and three years direct experience with children under age 13, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity OR
  • Two years of college with 18 credits in child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation or related field and three years direct experience with children under age 13, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Must have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR get certified within 90 days of employment.
  • Clearance from a criminal background check.
  • Demonstrate a positive and constructive attitude.
  • Demonstrate verbally and by role modeling a sound knowledge of good teaching practices and of child growth and development.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and its capacity to develop youth. The ability to articulate and model YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility are essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


This work requires the following physical activities: climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity.  He/she must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. The work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may require occasional travel to the various sites of the YMCA of Montclair.
