Description

Histopathology Technologist
Salary: $85,000.00 - $1,500 signing bonus 
Benefits: medical, dental, vision, life, short and long term disability and 401k with company match 
Shift 3:00 pm to 11:30pm

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum five (5) years' work experience in a histology laboratory
  • Current certification for HT through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent
  • Possess the following skills:
  • Knowledge of the procedures used for the optimal sectioning of all tissue types.
  • Knowledge of tissue morphology to identify tissue type and to identify correct embedding, sectioning, and staining reactions.
  • Knowledge of basic teaching techniques to instruct and train other technicians and assist residents in training.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all specialized and general laboratory equipment used in the laboratory.
  • Basic knowledge of computers.
  • Must be Citizen


Responsibilities

  • The contractor must be able to carry out all processing, embedding, sectioning and staining procedures related to histopathology specimen handling, to provide the best pathology materials for diagnosis.
  • Operate and maintain processors, embedding stations, automated strainers, microtome, cryostats, and other equipment used to prepare patient specimens for procedures requested by a pathologist.
  • Performs microtomy/cryotomy at a skill level sufficient to cut section of high quality.
  • Sets up technical procedures and other details necessary for processing frozen and paraffin sections or touch preparations.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the theory of fixation, dehydration, and infiltration of tissue samples.
  • Displays skill and proficiency in performing all aspects of microtomy and slide preparation for routine histology, special stains, immunohistochemistry, and collection for genetic studies.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in tissue orientation and embedding in paraffin wax and proper microtomy techniques of all tissue types including bone.
  • Performs decalcification of all types of bone (dense cortical, bone, spongy cancellous bone, and very small bone marrow biopsies) using various acids and acid/fixative combinations.
  • Performs a full range of duties involved in special processing and staining of all tissue types including skin, bone, nerve, brain, and lymph nodes, etc., human and animal tissue.
  • Performs a wide variety of special stains demonstrating microorganisms, anatomical characteristics, carbohydrates and amyloidal, pigments, minerals and cytoplasmic granules and enzyme histochemistry manually and by automation.
  • Performs a wide variety of immunohistochemistry procedures, with full understanding of automated strainers, control selection, quality control review for appropriate staining, equipment preventative maintenance, chemical and antibody inventory management, and solution preparation.
  • Keeps accurate records of work output for collation of periodic reports, equipment maintenance QC logs and other logs/data that must be recorded. Files tissue blocks and slides.
  • Repair broken and damaged slides.
