What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Assistant Script Reader, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assistant Script Reader, you need strong analytical reading skills, a solid grasp of story structure, and familiarity with industry terminology, often supported by relevant coursework or experience in film, literature, or creative writing. Proficiency with screenplay formatting software (such as Final Draft) and coverage templates is typically required. Exceptional written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to provide constructive feedback are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure that scripts are evaluated accurately and efficiently, supporting the development process and helping studios identify promising projects.

What are the most common challenges faced by Assistant Script Readers, and how can they be managed?

Assistant Script Readers often face the challenge of reviewing a high volume of scripts under tight deadlines while maintaining objective and insightful coverage. Balancing speed with thoroughness is key, as studios rely on accurate assessments to make decisions. To manage these challenges, it's important to develop strong time-management skills, stay organized with tracking systems, and continuously refine analytical abilities. Collaborating with more experienced readers and participating in feedback sessions can also help improve accuracy and consistency in script evaluations.

What are Assistant Script Readers?

Assistant Script Readers are entry-level professionals in the film, television, or theater industries who review and evaluate scripts submitted for production consideration. Their main responsibility is to read screenplays, stage plays, or teleplays and write coverage reports that summarize the plot, analyze characters, and assess the script's strengths and weaknesses. These reports help producers, agents, or executives decide whether a script is worth pursuing. Assistant Script Readers play a key role in filtering large volumes of submissions and ensuring only the most promising projects move forward. The position is a common starting point for those interested in script development or film production.

Job description

Description
Mortgage Loan Officer Assistant - Grayslake Office
High-Impact, Client-Facing Role | Top-Producing Purchase Team
If you love talking to people and being the first trusted voice a buyer hears - keep reading. If you prefer hiding behind files and avoiding phones, this is not your jam.
We're a high-performing, referral-driven mortgage team looking for a Specialist to own the front end of the pipeline, have a crazy-high sense of urgency, and love to figure out and solve mortgage problems like a Rubik's Cube.
You'll be the gatekeeper, the quarterback, and the reason deals actually get to contract.
Compensation
Base Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 (depending on experience)
Performance Upside (recommended):
  • Bonuses per closed loans
  • Annual upside for the right performer: $75,000-$90,000+

Benefits
  • Full health, dental, vision
  • 401(k) + stock ownership
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Stable hours: 8:30-5:30 CST, Mon-Fri
  • No weekends. No chaos.

Responsibilities
What You'll Own (a.k.a. Why This Role Matters)
Lead Conversion & First Contact
• Be the first human voice new buyers hear - by phone, text, and email
• Chase, track, and convert inbound warm leads (speed matters)
• Set expectations, build rapport, and move clients forward decisively
• Schedule & prepare high-quality Discovery Meetings for the Loan Officer
Pre-Approvals & File Prep
• Guide clients through SimpleNexus document uploads
• Complete applications, utilize Encompass to work up and structure the Pre-Approvals
• Submit accurate, complete pre-approvals within 24 hours
• Build scenarios and collaborate with underwriting/investors as needed
Client & Realtor Communication
Weekly check-ins with:
• Pre-approved clients
• Actively searching for property homebuyers
• Referral Partners
• Be relentlessly proactive - no ghosting, no dropped balls
Team Collaboration
• Participate in daily huddles and weekly pipeline reviews
• Support the LO with follow-up calls and client handoffs
• Improve systems, scripts, and workflows as you go
• Help the team get better every month (not just "do your job")
Who Crushes in This Role
You'll thrive here if you are:
• Fast, organized, and dangerously good on the phone
• Comfortable driving conversations and asking for decisions
• Obsessed with follow-up and details
• Calm under pressure and allergic to missed deadlines
• Independent, but a strong team player
Qualifications
Requirements (Let's Be Honest)
Must-Have
• 3-5+ years of mortgage experience (front-end strongly preferred)
• Solid understanding of DU/LP and pre-approval workflows
• Experience with correspondent/wholesale lenders and UNDERSTANDING of how to read guidelines
• Strong CRM, Excel, and general tech skills
• Confident communicator - phone, text, email
Nice-to-Have
• NMLS license (or willingness to get it)
• SimpleNexus & Encompass experience
• Experience building or improving lead follow-up systems
• Strong purchase loan knowledge (Conv/FHA/VA)
