Job description

Department: Tennis
Reports To: Head Coach
Location: North Greenville University


Position Summary:

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will assist the coaching staff with all aspects of the Tennis program, including coaching, game planning, practice organization, player development, recruiting, and administrative support. This position is designed to provide valuable experience for individuals pursuing a career in collegiate coaching. 


Primary Responsibilities:

Coaching & Player Development:

  • Assist with the instruction and development of a position group (to be determined based on background and staff needs).
  • Support the Head Coach in game planning, opponent breakdowns, and weekly scouting reports.
  • Help run individual drills, scout team organization, and positional meetings.
  • Evaluate practice and game film, contributing to weekly performance reviews.

Recruiting Support:

  • Assist with film evaluation and recruit data entry in the recruiting database (ARMS or similar).
  • Support the planning and execution of recruiting visits and events.
  • Help maintain relationships with high school coaches and prospective student-athletes through approved communications.

Practice & Game Day Operations:

  • Assist with practice setup, breakdown, and script execution.
  • Coordinate scout team responsibilities and ensure efficient practice operation.
  • Provide sideline and/or box support during games assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Mobility – Ability to demonstrate football techniques, run drills, and be physically active on the field for extended periods (up to 2+ hours). Must be able to lift, carry, and move football equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Hearing – Ability to hear and respond to whistle commands, player communication, and coach-to-coach conversations in loud environments (practice fields, weight room, game day).
  • Vision – Sufficient vision to drive, operate film and video systems, and evaluate play execution on the field and on screen.
  • Communication – Ability to clearly communicate instructions and feedback to players and staff during high-intensity and fast-paced situations.
  • Cognitive/Emotional – Capacity to concentrate for long periods, process game strategy, manage in-game adjustments, and maintain emotional composure in high-stress environments.

  • Playing or coaching experience is preferred.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, and video editing software (e.g., DV Sport, XOS, or similar) is preferred.
  • Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
