Job description

The Medical Assistant supports providers and care teams by performing clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient, high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include obtaining vitals, preparing patients for exams, assisting with procedures, managing documentation, coordinating referrals, and providing patient education and follow-up. This role promotes positive patient experiences through effective communication, teamwork, and attention to detail in both primary and specialty care settings.

$3,000 Sign On Bonus*

Pay Range: $18.50 - 23.64/hour

Employment Type: Full Time, 72 hours every 2 weeks.

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm (one half day per week), no weekends or holidays.

Requirements: High School Diploma/GED required, Current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration or LPN required, BLS for the Healthcare Provider 60 days after hire required.

PATIENT CARE

  • Maintains a confidential, safe, and patient-focused environment.

  • Responds appropriately to patient emergencies in person and via phone.

  • Applies clinical screening tools and obtains/upgrades patient information and vital signs.

  • Orders labs, refills prescriptions, and coordinates referrals/testing per protocol.

  • Reviews After Visit Summary (AVS) with patients and families to ensure understanding.

  • Provides patient education on care gaps, preventive health, and AVS instructions.

  • Supports accessibility needs and room setup adjustments.

  • Manages referral communication and coordination with specialty offices.

  • Follows up on test results and ensures care team addresses abnormal or pending items.

PROVIDER SUPPORT

  • Collaborates with providers to form a patient-centered care team.

  • Anticipates provider needs to enhance clinical productivity.

  • Facilitates communication between patients, providers, and care teams.

  • Screenscalls, gathers relevant information, and communicates professionally.

  • Ensurescompletion of confidential questionnaires and required forms.

  • Manages appointment scheduling, cancellations, and urgent visit protocols.

  • Coordinates with providers and pharmacy for medication management and adherence.

CLINICAL PROCEDURES

  • Prepare patients and exam rooms for procedures (e.g., minor surgeries, wound care, pap smears).

  • Assistproviders during procedures byhandinginstruments,maintainingsterile fields, and supporting patient comfort.

DOCUMENTATION

  • Accuratelydocuments and updates patient records and medication logs.

  • Maintains logs for clinical equipment, point-of-care testing, and sample medications.

  • Obtains prior authorizations(as needed)and manages recalls,overdues, and EMR actions.

  • Preparescharts for upcoming visits, ensuring all relevant records are available.

  • Initiates standing or routine pre-visit ordersperprotocol.

  • Coordinates withcentral servicesfor proper categorization and routing of clinical documents.

Operational Excellence

  • Contributes to continuous quality improvement and responds effectively to changes in clinical workflows, policies, or priorities.

  • Engages inlearning experiences and ensures compliance with policies and regulations.

  • Maintains ethical billing practices and patient confidentiality.

  • Communicates effectively with referral sources.

  • Contributesto initiatives improving care coordination, reducing no-shows, and closing care gaps.

  • Provides workflow improvement feedback related to planning, huddles, and team collaboration.
