Job Summary
As a Legislative and Policy Assistant, you will play a vital role in monitoring legislative activity and participating in committee meetings, as needed, to assist in gathering relevant information for Federation staff members. In addition, you will be responsible for promptly updating legislative summaries as bills are amended or changed.
Responsibilities
  • Assist directors and Ag Counsel with administrative details, communication correspondence, and daily activities.
  • Coordinate detailed matters assigned to directors and Ag Counsel to advance the legislative, governmental, and legal responsibilities of the Alabama Farmers Federation.
  • Schedule and prepare materials for weekly staff meetings in the legislative session including agendas, action items, scheduling of guests and reports/handouts.
  • Assist in research of legislative issues and coordination among appropriate Federation staff, stakeholder groups, and legislative staff.
  • Assist in the drafting and proofreading of basic legal documents.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3 years of experience in office administration and/or legal assistance is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extremely detail oriented, organized, and proactive.
  • Highly proficient computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office, meeting availability programs for external attendees, and video conferencing.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
