Extended School Year (ESY) Educational Technician
Position Title: Extended School Year (ESY) Educational Technician (I, II, or III) - 24 days @ 6.5 hrs/day
Reports To: ESY Program Coordinator and/or Special Education Teacher
Compensation: Hourly rates range from $19.82 to $30.17 (including $0.50/hr self-contained differential), based on the wage scale of the collective bargaining agreement.
Position Summary
The Educational Technician supports students with disabilities participating in the Extended School Year (ESY) program. Under the supervision of certified special education staff, the Ed Tech assists students in accessing educational programming, implementing individualized supports, promoting independence, and maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
This is a temporary summer position supporting the RSU 21 Extended School Year (ESY) Program. The primary ESY program is scheduled to operate from July 6, 2026, through August 13, 2026, from 7:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Staff should be aware that, based on student needs, staffing requirements, and program availability, there may be opportunities for additional workdays, extended hours, or expanded assignments beyond an employee's initial schedule. Participation in additional dates and times will be discussed with staff as needs arise and is subject to administrative approval.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to students with disabilities in classroom, community, and recreational settings.
  • Implement instructional activities and behavior support plans as directed by special education staff.
  • Assist students with academic, communication, social-emotional, behavioral, and functional life skills.
  • Support students during transitions and daily routines.
  • Utilize de-escalation and co-regulation strategies to support student engagement and safety.
  • Collect and document student data as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Assist with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene, when required.
  • Facilitate positive peer interactions and encourage student participation in activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.
  • Participate in required trainings and staff meetings.
  • Follow all district policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
Qualifications
  • Holds or is eligible for appropriate Maine Educational Technician certification (Ed Tech I, II, or III).
  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavior support strategies and inclusive practices preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to actively supervise students in various settings.
  • Ability to bend, lift, kneel, and assist students with mobility and personal care needs as required.
  • Ability to respond appropriately during behavioral or safety-related incidents.
