Job Summary

The Entry-Level Water Well Drilling Rig Operator I assists with the operation and maintenance of drilling equipment used in water well construction. This role works under direct supervision and focuses on learning drilling procedures, safety practices, and equipment operation while supporting the drilling crew in daily operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in operating drilling rigs and support equipment under supervision
  • Help set up, level, and secure drilling rigs at job sites
  • Perform manual tasks including handling tools, materials, casing, and grout
  • Observe and assist during drilling, casing installation, and well development
  • Perform routine cleaning, inspection, and basic maintenance of equipment
  • Maintain job site cleanliness and organization
  • Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and environmental regulations
  • Report hazards, equipment issues, or unsafe conditions immediately
  • Participate in required training and safety meetings

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • No prior drilling experience required; construction or mechanical experience a plus
  • Willingness to learn drilling operations and safety procedures
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • CDL may be required or obtained after hire, depending on equipment

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather and terrain

It was started in 1979 by Edward Powell out of his house in Aston. His Sons and Son-in-law took over in 1997 and grew the company in all areas of water well and geothermal drilling and service. In January 2023 the 3rd generation has taken the lead.
