Job description

Bering-Alak'aina Holdings, LLC is looking for an Infrastructure Technician to support our government customer located in Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands.

The position requires hands-on experience in infrastructure cabling support for enterprise networks for both Inside and Outside Plant as well as providing knowledge transfer to Infrastructure Technician. This role will work as part of a team that provides all circuit installation and maintenance services under the Baseline Support requirements and mission support as required for the NEC at USAG-KA.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain data cabling, including Ethernet, fiber, and copper cabling for infrastructure services in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Assist Infrastructure Lead with conducting studies on existing communications system and equipment as well as developing rough order of magnitude estimates for replacement and maintenance costs.
  • Evaluate design plans and recommend necessary changes in infrastructure design and monitoring.
  • Provide input and attend briefings on IT infrastructure-related projects, plans and construction.
  • Prepare draft requirements for telecom closets, outside cable plant, and inside wiring projects, supporting local minor construction, renovation, and expansion.
  • Provide integration planning and analysis, develop detailed estimates.
  • Organize and assemble necessary materials and equipment for cable installations.
  • Interpret and verify service orders, drawings, specifications, special requirements, and instructions.
  • Run, pull, terminate, and/or splice copper and fiber optic cables, including Cat5/6/6A, SMF/MMF fiber, SE, and low voltage, following industry standards and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Mount telecommunications equipment, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards.
  • Conduct site surveys to select appropriate cable pathways. Select appropriate cable pathways and conduct site surveys for clients.
  • Assist in the design, creation, and implementation of standards and specifications including IAW Army Enterprise Standards, the National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code and performance work statement requirements.
  • Document cabling and circuit information into CAIRS.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Install closet hardware, such as connecting blocks, fiber enclosures, racks, backboards, and patch panels.
  • Perform various tasks within the telecommunication industry, including wiring practices, confined space work, color coding, terminations, understanding signal flow and signal path, and handling DSL and Ethernet connections.
  • Analyze problems, evaluate technical issues, test, maintain, modify, and monitor existing infrastructure.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring for other technicians
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • BICSI Certification preferred.
  • ETA Data Cabling Installer (EDI) Certification preferred.
  • Must have attended cable splicing and installation trainings.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Cable splicing and installation training required
  • Ability to relocate and reside at the USAG-KA in the RMI required. You must meet current vaccination requirements for infectious diseases to enter the RMI. Must also be willing to meet any future vaccination requirements if mandated by the RMI.
  • Pre-employment health screening is required due to the island's remote location and limited medical and dental capabilities required.
  • Ability to ride a bicycle or walk at least 2 miles to/from work daily required. There are no personally owned vehicles allowed on USAG-KA. Transportation is primarily by bicycle.
  • Ability to travel by plane or small sea-going vessel between working locations required.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • Rotational callback and emergency duty are requirements of this position.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) years of experience as a technician preferred.
  • Experience with cable documentation using CAIRS
  • Experience performing in a DoD IT environment preferred.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • SECRET security clearance to access classified information.  
  • Valid U.S. Passport
