About the Role

The Grounds Technician – Resort Grounds and Landscaping plays an essential role in maintaining the appearance, cleanliness, and overall presentation of Shanty Creek Resorts’ hotels, lodging properties, and surrounding public areas.

This hands-on position supports landscaping, flower planting, lawn care, seasonal cleanup, and general groundskeeping to create a clean, attractive, and welcoming environment for guests and employees.

Working under the direction of the designated Grounds or Facilities leader, the Grounds Technician operates a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance equipment, performs routine outdoor maintenance, and assists with projects that improve the appearance of the resort.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to operate basic grounds maintenance equipment, including lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, and utility vehicles.
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and repetitive movement.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, lawn care, gardening, or property maintenance.
  • Familiarity with planting and maintaining flowers, shrubs, trees, and landscaping beds.
  • Basic knowledge of lawn care and seasonal landscaping practices.
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with outdoor equipment.
  • Experience working at a hotel, resort, golf course, apartment community, or other large property.
  • Interest in landscaping, gardening, horticulture, or outdoor maintenance.
Responsibilities
  • Plant, water, weed, trim, and maintain flowers, shrubs, trees, and landscaping beds throughout the resort.
  • Mow, trim, edge, and maintain lawns and other grass-covered areas.
  • Apply mulch, soil, seed, fertilizer, and other landscaping materials under supervision.
  • Remove weeds, leaves, branches, litter, and other debris from resort grounds.
  • Maintain the appearance of hotel entrances, walkways, patios, courtyards, parking areas, and other guest-facing spaces.
  • Inspect outdoor areas regularly and address conditions that may negatively affect the appearance or safety of the resort.
  • Water flowers, hanging baskets, planters, lawns, and landscaping areas according to established schedules.
  • Assist with seasonal landscaping projects, including spring cleanup, fall cleanup, planting, and preparation of outdoor spaces.
  • Operate lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, utility vehicles, and other grounds maintenance equipment safely.
  • Perform light cleaning and routine maintenance of groundskeeping tools and equipment.
  • Report damaged equipment, irrigation concerns, hazardous conditions, or repair needs to a supervisor.
  • Assist with minor irrigation monitoring and basic repairs as directed.
  • Help install, remove, or maintain outdoor furniture, decorations, signs, and seasonal displays.
  • Support the setup and cleanup of outdoor resort events and activities as needed.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other resort departments.
  • Assist with snow removal, ice control, or other seasonal grounds duties when assigned.
  • Complete additional groundskeeping, landscaping, property appearance, and general maintenance duties as directed by management.
