This entry-level planning position offers the opportunity to contribute and participate in a diverse range of land development projects in Arizona and the Southwest. The Planner will play a key role in guiding projects through the entitlement and development review process, collaborating closely with the project manager and other planners, engineers, and designers to translate conceptual visions into buildable, compliant, and innovative communities.

In this role you will apply planning fundamentals in technical support of projects within the Team and will have the opportunity to apply planning principles and practices to design projects that encompass considerable scope and complexity.

The ideal candidate brings either education and/or experience in land development and entitlements, a working understanding of municipal planning procedures, and the creativity and initiative to navigate complex regulatory environments while supporting the delivery of thoughtful, high-quality planning solutions. This experience can be from either internships and/or employment. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your planning knowledge, grow your planning career, and have an opportunity to be involved in the continued growth in the Southwest.

Responsibilities
  • Use industry standards, sources and methods to gather and analyze data for planning projects and identifying project constraints and opportunities. This includes jurisdictional planning publications and online resources, zoning ordinances, and physical characteristics typically analyzed for planning projects.
  • Coordinate directly with clients and committees to schedule meetings and share information about projects.
  • Outline, design, and draft narrative text for planning applications.
  • Attend neighborhood meetings and public hearings related to entitlement projects.
  • Initiate, plan, and coordinate logistics of neighborhood meetings. Complete follow-up related to the meetings, including summaries to provide to the jurisdiction in support of the project.
  • Prepare presentations, handouts, and/or display boards for client meetings and public presentations and assist in presenting.
  • Assist in the development of project schedules and deliverable timelines, including preparation of project scopes, schedules, and proposed budgets.
  • Assist in development and updating project websites and social media posts.
  • Coordinate printing of project deliverables.
  • Work with project managers to understand project financials and assist in delivering projects on budget.
  • Assist in marketing efforts to expand client base for planning projects.
  • Coordinate the collection of GIS data necessary for planning projects, analyze spatial data in GIS, and prepare maps for planning reports.
  • Establish & maintain positive relationships with co-workers, support and build others on the team and across disciplines/offices.
  • Be responsive to others and share information to improve efficiency and help others achieve goals; listen and engage in productive and critical debate.
  • Suggest new ideas and processes; stay informed of developments in practice areas; view obstacles as opportunities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Community, Regional or Urban Planning, or Landscape Architecture or a related field from an accredited university, or combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum 0 to 3 years of related experience in Planning.
  • Desire to be actively working toward your AICP licensure preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend regulatory and policy documents, development plans and law cases, ordinances, maps, and agreements.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Basic GIS knowledge required; AutoCAD, Photoshop, and InDesign operational skills preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
