Job description

Who We Are
Imprint helps the world's best brands grow the lifetime value of their customers. We started with co-branded credit cards and rebuilt them to be smarter, more rewarding, and brand-first. We partner with companies like Crate & Barrel, Rakuten, Booking.com, H-E-B, Fetch, and Shell to launch modern credit programs that deepen loyalty, unlock savings, and drive growth. But the card is just the beginning. We combine advanced payments infrastructure, intelligent underwriting, and deep customer data to create delightful and personalized experiences for members as well as efficient and profitable relationships for our brand partners. Our robust technology and world-class operations allow us and our brand partners to offer powerful financial products without becoming a bank.
In the U.S., co-branded cards alone account for over $300 billion in annual spend, and most still run on decades-old legacy bank systems. Imprint is the modern alternative: flexible, embeddable, and built for how people actually pay today. Backed by Kleiner Perkins, Thrive Capital, Ribbit, and Khosla Ventures, we're building a world-class team to redefine how people pay and how brands grow. If you want to move fast, solve hard problems, and own real outcomes, we want to meet you.
As Assistant Controller, you will own the technical accounting function at Imprint during a critical period of growth. Reporting directly to the Head of Accounting, this is a senior individual contributor and people management role with clear accountability for accounting quality, controls, and team development.
You will act as the decision-driving accounting partner to the Head of Accounting: independently researching and applying GAAP/FASB guidance, building internal controls infrastructure, and ensuring that Imprint's financial data is accurate, reconcilable, and audit-ready. This role blends hands-on technical execution with ownership of high-risk accounting areas, data infrastructure, and team capability-building as we continue to scale.
What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days
  • Begun development of the Technical Accounting Policy Manual
  • Ensured the team has completed reconciliations for all high-risk accounts, traceable to source data
  • Initiated buildout of a scalable data infrastructure framework to support GAAP-compliant automation
  • Enhanced financial statements to be comparable with peer and competitor benchmarks
  • Established a training and development plan for the accounting team through 2027

Responsibilities
  • Own technical accounting for high-risk areas including loan accounting, CECL, revenue recognition, and IPO readiness
  • Lead development and maintenance of the Technical Accounting Policy Manual
  • Ensure team reconciliations are complete, accurate, and traceable back to source data (e.g., Snowflake)
  • Build and implement an internal controls framework appropriate for a pre-IPO fintech environment
  • Partner with data and engineering teams to design a scalable, GAAP-compliant ledger and transaction tagging framework
  • Independently research and apply FASB/ASC Codification guidance without direction - and build this capability in the team
  • Manage and develop direct reports, including oversight of high-risk accounting areas and day-to-day close operations
  • Collaborate with an offshore team handling AP and lower-risk, routine accounting tasks
  • Use accounting data and operational insight to identify gaps, reduce risk, and improve the accuracy of financial reporting
  • Enhance financial statements to ensure comparability with peers and competitors
  • Build team skills and establish a structured plan to support audit readiness

Qualifications
Required
  • Demonstrated full-cycle technical accounting experience, with a strong track record in GAAP-intensive environments
  • Ability to independently research and apply FASB/ASC Codification guidance - without direction or hand-holding
  • Experience designing and implementing internal controls frameworks
  • Strong reconciliation skills, including the ability to trace transactions from ledger to source data systems
  • Experience managing or mentoring accounting team members
  • Background in at least one of the following: banks, insurance companies, fintech, or accounting firms serving regulated financial services industries
  • Big Four background strongly preferred (audit or advisory)
  • CPA license

Nice to Have
  • Experience supporting or completing an IPO or audit-readiness process
  • Familiarity with data infrastructure concepts, ledger design, or transaction tagging frameworks (willing to train candidates with strong accounting fundamentals)
  • Exposure to technical accounting areas such as loan accounting, leasing, or revenue recognition
  • Experience working in or with high-growth, pre-IPO environments
  • CPA license

Perks & Benefits
  • Competitive compensation and equity packages
  • Leading configured work computers of your choice
  • Flexible paid time off
  • Fully covered, high-quality healthcare, including fully covered dependent coverage
  • Additional health coverage includes access to One Medical and the option to enroll in an FSA
  • 20 weeks of paid parental leave for the primary caregiver and 8 weeks for all new parents
  • Access to industry-leading technology across all of our business units, stemming from our philosophy that we should invest in resources for our team that foster innovation, optimization, and productivity
