Rail Operations & Technology Instructor

Contract / Consultant

Position Overview

Knowledge Architects (KA) is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Rail Operations & Technology Instructor to support the delivery, modernization, and continuous improvement of workforce development programs within complex mobility environments.


This role is designed for a highly capable transportation professional who combines deep operational experience with strong instructional capability and a passion for workforce readiness, operational excellence, and technology-enabled learning.

The successful candidate will help support the evolution of transportation training beyond traditional classroom instruction by incorporating:

  • simulation-based learning,
  • competency validation,
  • operational readiness strategies,
  • digital reinforcement tools,
  • and continuous workforce performance improvement.


This position is ideal for professionals with experience in:

  • rail and transit operations,
  • rail systems manufacturing (OEM environments),
  • aviation operations training,
  • military transportation systems,
  • logistics and transportation technology,
  • or other safety-sensitive operational environments.

KA is not seeking a traditional “rulebook-only” instructor. We are seeking a systems-oriented professional who understands the evolving nature of workforce development within modern mobility ecosystems.


Key Responsibilities

The Rail Operations & Technology Instructor will:

  • Deliver rail operations, safety, and workforce readiness instruction to frontline transportation personnel
  • Facilitate classroom, field-based, simulation, and technology-assisted learning experiences
  • Support operator certification, recertification, and competency validation initiatives
  • Reinforce operational procedures, safety protocols, and situational decision-making practices
  • Assist with curriculum modernization and instructional improvement initiatives
  • Support the integration of technology-enabled learning methodologies into operational training programs
  • Contribute to the development of simulation-based and scenario-based learning environments
  • Support operational documentation, SOP reinforcement, and workforce readiness strategies
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and remediation support to trainees and frontline personnel
  • Collaborate with operational leadership and project teams on workforce modernization initiatives
  • Utilize feedback, performance insights, and operational data to support continuous improvement efforts


Engagement Structure

  • Independent Contractor / Consultant
  • Part-Time or Project-Based Engagement
  • Hybrid and Onsite Delivery as Needed
  • Travel May Be Required Based on Client Assignments.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience in Curriculum Development and Instructional Design
  • Strong Communication and Educational skills
  • Proven ability in Training and Instructional delivery
  • Adaptability to address diverse learning needs and styles
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities
  • Proficiency in rail operations and modern technology trends
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Engineering, Transportation, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Prior experience in transportation or rail-related industries is a plus
  • Commitment to fostering diversity and supporting learners from various backgrounds


Preferred Qualifications

Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Rail simulation systems or technology-assisted instruction
  • Heavy rail, commuter rail, or light rail operations
  • Learning Management Systems (LMS), e-learning platforms, or digital instructional technologies
  • Aviation operations, military transportation, or transportation technology environments
  • Workforce modernization or operational transformation initiatives
  • Instructional design or competency-based training methodologies
  • Coaching and developing diverse adult learner populations across varying experience levels
