Work Experience Description:

Ideal for students who have begun gaining relevant experience and are building their skills through internships, part-time jobs, or significant projects. Typically aimed at sophomores or juniors who have completed a combination of introductory and advanced coursework.

Job Summary

The Data Visualization Developer supports Institutional Research by managing and analyzing data, creating and updating dashboards, and collaborating with other departments on data issues.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Administer surveys, gather and share results, and offer training on survey research methods.
  • Roll-out and provide support to programs and departments for data visualizations of survey and other data in PowerBI.
  • Develop dashboard analytics to specification in PowerBI using Qualtrics survey data and other sources.
  • Use SQL, R, and other technologies for building statistical analysis.
  • Gather, analyze, and present institutional data for university use and external agencies.
  • Assist in cleaning datasets, maintaining databases (including understanding database structure), ensuring data accuracy, and proposing solutions for data integrity issues.
  • Offer technical and statistical assistance for Academic Division initiatives and studies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must exemplify the University Honor Code, including the dress and grooming principles and expectations.
  • Preference will be given to students who can work during academic breaks.

Qualifications

    • Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
    • An understanding of database structure and data integrity, including an ability to clean and manage datasets.
      Connecting data sources via various methods.
    • Familiarity with basic statistical concepts (e.g., descriptive statistics) and software (e.g., R, Excel, SPSS).
    • Familiarity and experience with survey and data visualization software (e.g., Qualtrics, PowerBI).
    • Ability to make meaning of data using appropriate graphs and charts.
    • Intermediate computer programming.
    • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
    • Proficient in report writing and interpretation of technical documents.
    • Ability to start a project and complete it quickly and accurately, work under pressure, and provide excellent customer service.
