Job description

Description
The Department of Chemistry at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Organic Chemistry beginning either January 1 or August 1, 2027, depending on the candidate's availability.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, or a related field, by the start date. Teaching experience is advantageous, and postdoctoral research experience is strongly preferred. Teaching responsibilities will include Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 (lecture and laboratory), Advanced Organic Chemistry (lecture and laboratory), and other courses in the bio- and health-related area of expertise.
Additionally, the applicant will be expected to share responsibility for managing the Organic Chemistry curriculum. The successful applicant will be expected to establish a productive undergraduate research program, with opportunities for collaboration on campus and in the community, including, but not limited to, the UT College of Medicine Chattanooga and the UTC Research Institute. Other responsibilities include helping the department maintain research instrumentation, which includes a JEOL 400 MHz FT-NMR spectrometer. Candidates should also be willing to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction, and to assist the UTC campus in achieving additional goals as specified in UTC's Strategic Plan. The Department of Chemistry at UTC comprises 18 full-time faculty members and is approved by the American Chemical Society. The department has approximately 140 chemistry and biochemistry majors, mostly in the biochemistry track, and is noted for excellence in undergraduate education and research, including a ten-week summer research program (see https://www.utc.edu/chemistry). In addition to start-up funds, the candidate is eligible to receive additional support through participation in our endowed summer undergraduate research program (URP).
