POSITION SUMMARY

COMPENSATION 

  •  Full-time exempt position with benefits
  • Remuneration Range: 83-100% ($79K - $95K annually)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Work closely with the Curriculum Manager to ensure that deadlines are met and goals are achieved.
  • Move publications through production steps at the request of the Curriculum Manager.
  • Assign and keep track of the fundamental belief mapping of every publication, making necessary edits.
  • Assign work to copyeditors and proofreads and make changes after each step. Work with copyeditors and proofreaders and review the publications for style consistency before release.
  • Receive and evaluate changes from the publishing houses. Apply changes to publications and rerelease as needed.
  • Research and collate stories relating Adventist History, archaeology, nature, science, health, and mission stories.
  • Work with musicians to create new Sabbath School music: assign, review, collect feedback, and store all music appropriately.
  • Oversee podcast production for some levels, including some script writing and working with audio engineer.
  • Oversee crafts for the lower levels, working with the creator and designers.
  • Provide ongoing content to web and app developers and request changes to subdomains.
  • Oversee AIJ social media pages, share new ideas, approve posts.
  • Collate data from AIJ pilot projects.
  • Respond to questions from the field as needed.
  • Liaise as needed to secure original features/content.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Must be a member in regular standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  • Must maintain a regular and reliable work schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree with major in English, Religion or Education required. Master’s degree in English/Religion/Education related field preferred.
  • Experience in project management required.
  • Minimum of four years successful experience in writing and/or education.
  • Six (6) credit hours in curriculum development preferred.
  • Previous editorial experience and experience as a published writer preferred.
  • Experience or background in education related field an asset.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of principles, policies, and beliefs of the General Conference and the Church.
  • Because of involvement in the production of resources to support the religious education curriculum of the department, editorial and technical staff members must have sufficient theological knowledge and background in church doctrines and Adventist heritage to maintain in their various responsibilities the doctrines, faith, and practices of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  • Work is varied, requiring many steps to prepare manuscripts for publication and to provide some oversight across the project, in collaboration with the Curriculum Manager. Excellent management skills are essential. Be able to motivate and empower team members to meet assigned production deadlines.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and creative abilities.
  • Knowledge of the steps and processes necessary to produce printed material and be capable of scheduling and maintaining deadlines.
  • Must have technical and editorial skills necessary to edit and process copy, and be able to do layout, proofread, make corrections, and check blue lines.
  • Must have highly developed English language skills (written and verbal).
