As an Assistant Superintendent, you’ll help lead field construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and at a level of quality that meets or exceeds customer expectations. Working closely with the Project Superintendent and project team, you’ll coordinate subcontractors, support daily jobsite operations, and develop the experience needed to grow into larger field leadership responsibilities.

Why Join FCL Builders?

  • Make an Impact: You’ll play a key role in projects that transform communities and serve industries nationwide.
  • Career Momentum: You'll gain hands-on experience alongside seasoned Project Managers and Superintendents while learning how to run projects from the ground up.
  • Employee Ownership: As part of our ESOP program, you’re not just working for FCL—you’re helping build its future.
  • Supportive Growth: We foster a mentorship-based culture where you’re encouraged to learn, lead, and level up.
  • People First: We’ve been certified a Great Place to Work two years running—and we don’t take that lightly.
  • Stability + Innovation: We combine the legacy of experience with the ambition to innovate in every build.

What You’ll Do:

Pre-Construction & Project Startup

  • Review and understand owner contract requirements, drawings, specifications, subcontractor scopes of work, and related project documents
  • Complete project startup tasks, including job setup checklists, coordination with the Project Manager and Project Engineer, and procurement of project-specific items
  • Document existing site conditions or issues before deliveries or work begin
Develop and maintain site logistics plans, including trailer location, barriers, fencing, signage, dumpsters, material storage, site access, and designated areas
  • Support SWPPP setup, ICRA/ILSM forms, and other project-specific compliance requirements when applicable
  • Coordinate with local municipalities to understand inspections and certificate of occupancy requirements
  • Help plan construction activities from project start through completion to support accurate scheduling and execution

Planning, Execution & Jobsite Operations

  • Support the Project Superintendent in coordinating trades, subcontractors, and daily jobsite activities
  • Advise the Project Manager of circumstances or issues that may significantly impact the project schedule
  • Track job progress, job costs, and time-and-material work in coordination with the project team
  • Maintain accurate daily jobsite progress reporting, logs, and photo documentation
  • Identify, document, and help resolve jobsite issues, including ownership of next steps and responsible parties
  • Verify drawing measurements and identify discrepancies in floors, walls, ceilings, and other project conditions
  • Participate in corrective action planning with the project team to keep work aligned with contract documents, budget, and schedule

Client, Team & Subcontractor Collaboration

  • Establish effective working relationships with owners, owner representatives, building managers, building engineers, foremen, subcontractors, and project stakeholders
  • Chair weekly project construction meetings and discuss weekly work plans with subcontractors
  • Meet daily with subcontractors to confirm schedule expectations, daily tasks, and jobsite priorities
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with co-workers and outside parties regarding jobsite needs, expectations, and project requirements
  • Serve as a proactive problem-solver with the Project Manager, Project Superintendent, Project Engineer, and trade partners

Safety & Quality

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite
  • Continually enforce safety policies and procedures, including PPE requirements, fall protection, and other site-specific safety standards
  • Enforce building regulations related to noise, elevator use, security, tenant safety, and site access
  • Maintain construction barriers for security, construction separation, dust control, and other project needs
  • Perform daily walk-offs when required by the client
  • Support quality assurance efforts and help minimize punch list items through proactive field coordination

What We’re Looking For:
Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 5 years of project supervision experience in industrial or large commercial construction environments
  • Extensive knowledge of construction scheduling, cost control, field coordination, and safety procedures
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with owners, subcontractors, project teams, and outside partners
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed

Preferred:

  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Project

You'll Be Able To:

  • Lift, carry, move, or position objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Move safely on and around construction sites and in office environments
  • Work in inclement weather and high-noise conditions during site visits
  • Work at a desk or computer screen with a keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, walking, and driving
  • Communicate clearly with team members, subcontractors, clients, and external partners to exchange accurate information

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and bonus eligibility
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Full benefits package (health, dental, vision, and more)
  • Career advancement opportunities and continuous learning support
  • Paid time off and holidays
