Position Summary:
The Assistant Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, and execution of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects delivered under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project delivery model. This role assists the Project Manager in managing field execution, subcontractor coordination, schedule performance, cost control, procurement coordination, and quality compliance throughout the construction lifecycle.
The Assistant Project Manager works closely with engineering, procurement, construction management, and commissioning teams to support the successful delivery of large-scale solar energy projects from pre-construction through commissioning and project turnover.
Key Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
- Assist in planning and execution of utility-scale solar PV projects delivered under an EPC construction contract
- Support development and maintenance of project schedules, budgets, and execution plans in coordination with the Project Manager and Project Controls team
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure alignment with contract drawings, technical specifications, and EPC scope of work
- Assist with management and coordination of subcontractors performing civil, mechanical, electrical, and commissioning scopes associated with solar EPC construction
- Support field construction activities including site civil work, pile installation, tracker installation, module installation, DC collection systems, inverter and combiner installations, and medium-voltage infrastructure
- Participate in subcontractor coordination meetings and assist with managing subcontractor performance against schedule, safety, and quality requirements
- Assist with project procurement coordination including equipment deliveries, material tracking, and subcontractor mobilization
- Track project milestones and assist with monitoring schedule performance, identifying risks and supporting mitigation strategies
- Assist in managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other project documentation associated with EPC construction contracts
- Monitor field productivity and support coordination between construction crews, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Assist with project cost tracking, budget monitoring, and change management processes
- Support implementation of project quality management processes to ensure installation compliance with project specifications and design documents
- Assist with field inspections and quality audits verifying installation of solar equipment and electrical infrastructure
- Promote and support compliance with project safety programs, site safety procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and site safety inspections
- Assist with preparation of project reports including progress updates, cost tracking reports, schedule updates, and project documentation
- Support project commissioning activities and final project turnover to the client
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting construction projects, including experience on utility-scale solar or renewable energy projects executed in an EPC project delivery environment preferred
- Working knowledge of EPC construction project delivery and field execution practices
- Familiarity with utility-scale solar PV construction including trackers, modules, DC collection systems, inverters, combiner boxes, and medium-voltage infrastructure
- Understanding of construction scheduling, cost control, procurement coordination, and subcontractor management
- Ability to coordinate subcontractors and field activities within a large-scale EPC construction environment
- Familiarity with construction safety programs and regulatory requirements applicable to utility-scale energy projects
- Experience working with utility-scale solar tracker systems such as Nextracker highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Familiarity with project management platforms such as Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore, or similar construction management systems preferred
- Strong communication skills for coordination with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and stakeholders
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple project priorities
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to support project decision-making
- Detail-oriented with the ability to track project progress and maintain accurate project documentation
- OSHA 30 Certification required or ability to obtain.
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred
