On any given day you'll:

  • Provide engineering support for a variety of municipal and private projects including roadway reconstruction, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water mains, bridges, trails, and traffic signals
  • Assist with the concept, design, and engineering required to complete IDOT and Local Roads preliminary engineering projects
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with clients and stakeholders both verbally and written
  • Understand project schedules and implement accordingly
  • Understand and execute requirements for different funding opportunities
  • Prepare and execute exhibits to communicate with clients for inclusion in project reports
  • Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or government regulations
  • Environmental Survey Request process
  • Write project reports
  • Write Funding Applications
  • Prepare project cost estimates

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois or an EIT with the ability to achieve State of Illinois License within 12 months
  • Valid Driver's license with a good driving record
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with IDOT and Phase I projects

Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • Experience with ISTHA/IDOT and Local Roads project processing procedures
  • Microstation/Geopak software
  • Geometric Design

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit, walk, reach, crouch, bend, and walk or stand on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 lbs.
  • Constant hand, finger, and arm use
  • Constant computer screen exposure
  • Prolonged reading
