Project Engineer
Department: Project Engineer
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Chicago, IL
Compensation: $77,000 - $90,000 / year
Description
The primary function of the Project Engineer is to assist the project team in the administration and management of many of the activities, which are associated with the construction project.
Key Responsibilities
The duties, responsibilities and attributes of the Project Engineer typically include, but are not limited to:
Technical Skills
  • Assist with job office set up
  • Prepare the initial set up of CMiC, i.e. Submittal Log Registry, RFI numbering system, etc.
  • Prepare and maintain Submittal Logs
  • Assist the project team with the initial set up of PlanGrid to organize the contract documents for the teams use
  • Manage, set up, and oversee progress photo documentation via utilizing PlanGrid
  • Prepare and maintain RFI Logs in CMiC
  • Post RFI's and maintain the accuracy of the projects as-builts within a timely manner
  • Manage and maintain the Material Procurement Log
  • Interact with Field Superintendent(s), Field Foreman, Subcontractor Project Managers, and Material Suppliers / Vendors to ensure timely material deliveries to the site
  • Oversee the contract close out process (O&M manuals, As-Builts, etc.)
  • Create and organize all closeout binders
  • Attend project meetings and assist in the preparation / distribution of meeting minutes
  • Attend and participate in WEO Quarterly Risk Management (QRM) Trainings
  • Participate in WEO networking events
  • Participate in all PE trainings, including PE Boot Camps and PE Round Tables

Management Skills
  • Assist the Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager in obtaining costs from subcontractors for any extra work performed on the project
  • Log costs properly in CMiC, so the Subcontractor Tracking Log may be utilized
  • Assist or manage documenting, tracking and maintaining PCI Ticket Log
  • Ensure the timely delivery to the jobsite of all project equipment and materials (procurement)
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager on the date subcontracts must be awarded by to maintain the desired material on-site dates, per the P6 schedule
  • Manage the entire submittal process with the subcontractors and design team
  • Ensure that the project team is aware of the storage location of all approved Submittals
  • Create and maintain a document log, which tracks every drawing issuance from the design team
  • Assist with the distribution of overall project schedules and 8-week look ahead schedules
  • Find conflicts in the contract documents and issue a "Request for Information" (RFI) to the appropriate party / parties
  • Find practical solutions to field problems or conflicts found in the contract documents prior to issuing RFI's
  • Track outstanding RFIs and expedite return responses to all subcontractors. Elevate critical issues to the APM / PM in a timely manner
  • As required by the specific project conditions, assist the Project Superintendent(s) in providing safety orientation to all field workers prior to their start of work on site
  • As required by the specific project conditions, assist the Project Superintendent(s) with generating and issuing incident reports
  • Collect all Injury and Illness Prevention Plans (IIPP) from all subcontractors
  • Collect all Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) plans from subcontractors as needed
  • Collect Safety Submittals from subcontractors - IIPP, JHA, SDS
  • As required by the specific project conditions, assist in creating the first draft of the projects Site Specific Quality Plan (SSQP)
  • Work with the Project Superintendent(s) to schedule all pre-installation meetings
  • Attend weekly Building Information Modeling (BIM) meetings and assist in the development of a coordinated model between the MEPF trades
  • Document and take meeting minutes for weekly BIM coordination meetings
  • Design project required mock-ups and play a pivotal role in the management of all project required mock- ups
  • Develop an Owner training schedule which shows when all applicable subcontractors will provide training to the Owner
  • Video record and formally transmit all trainings to the Owner as part of our close out package
  • Manage the punchlist process with the project(s) assigned Project Superintendent(s)
  • Follow up and document punch list work status
  • Participate in initial and / or acceptance walks with the Architect / Owner, as needed

Four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or equivalent experience in a related field.
Proficiency in basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) Basic understanding of scheduling and CMiC applications.
Understanding of basic construction administration processes, including construction documents, schedules, RFIs, submittals and material procurement.
Effective oral and written communication skills
Understanding of basic daily software tools, such as Bluebeam, Plan Grid, Safety Mojo, BIM 360 Glue, etc.
Basic time management and organization skills
Completion of OSHA 30-Hour Safety Course
First Aid and CPR certified

Physical Demands:
Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction.
