Description
MATT Construction, the General Contractor that built such iconic structures as The Broad Museum and Academy Museum of Motion Pictures , is accepting applications for the Senior Project Engineer role.
The Role
Reporting to the Assistant Project Manager, The Senior Project Engineer leads all Project Engineer responsibilities and mentors the PE's development on the project. The SPE works closely with the Project Manager throughout the project including during the buyout and procurement process as well as maintaining the budget and schedule. The SPM will interface with the Superintendent on field walks and review the quality of delivered and installed materials.
Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Establishing and building relationships with clients/owners, owner's reps, architects and subcontractors, resulting in repeat business and recommendations
  • Managing subcontractor qualifying, procurement, submittals, RFIs, change orders and punch lists
  • Identifying scope gaps
  • Managing QAQC procedures
  • Working collaboratively and proactively with the project superintendent to ensure project safety
  • Executing 3-week look-ahead schedules
  • Recruiting and mentoring younger project engineers and interns

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction, Architecture, or Engineering preferred, but experience will be considered in lieu of education
  • 4 years of commercial construction industry experience.
  • Experience with fast-paced schedules + effective time-management skills
  • General knowledge of Type I and Type V construction means and methods
  • A proficient knowledge of estimating
  • A basic understanding of accounting and cost control procedures
  • Ability to read plans, drawings and specifications
  • Ability to write accurate and thought-out scopes for bid docs, and analyze bids from subs
  • Ability to process shop drawings, RFIs and submittals
  • Proficiency with Excel, Bluebeam, BIM/Revit, P6 and Procore
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically at all levels, from front line to C-suite
  • A willingness to learn
  • A passion for building
