Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Controller provides financial oversight of and direct accounting services for Tawani Enterprises, selected limited liability companies, non-profit organizations, and affiliated partnerships.  The services include accounts payable, invoices and accounts receivable, account reconciliations, cash management, preparation of all financial reports, and assistance with special projects as required by the CFO.
ESSENTIAL POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • 10 – 15 years of experience in financial accounting to include experience with general corporate and real estate accounting
  • Experience in leading and developing teams
  • Nonprofit experience and multi-entity environment accounting
  • Some tax return preparation (non-profit and partnership), contract management, and development accounting
  • Intermediate to expert facility with Microsoft Office, Yardi, QuickBooks or other comparable software required
  • Familiarity with conversion processes extremely helpful
  • Extremely detail oriented, strong technology and communication skills, and a proven team player essential
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Coordinate the preparation of the monthly financial statements and flash reports on a timely basis while also seeking to continually refine and improve that reporting. 
  • Perform monthly balance sheet, income statement and cash position variance analysis.
  • Manage the accounting department staff in a manner that continues to develop staff, provides continuity and backup, and produces a positive and supporting working environment consistent with Tawani as a whole.
  • Assist in the design, preparation and monitoring of budgets for all entities.
  • Coordinate forecasts of operations for all entities.
  • Assist in working with business heads to provide business and financial support. 
  • Ensure that all invoicing and collections, vendor payments and servicing of the department’s clients are handled on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Design, implement and monitor accounting policies and procedures to ensure appropriate internal controls and review.
  • Coordinate, prepare for and support annual external audits for all entities on a timely basis.
  • Furnish the information necessary for the preparation of the annual tax returns for each entity.
  • Review reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts for all entities on a monthly basis including all bank accounts, fixed assets and depreciation, construction accounts, partner equity accounts, intercompany activity, and all other payables, accruals and assets.   
  • Responsible for the monthly management fee assessments and leased employee charges shared between entities.
  • Responsible for providing timely financial information as necessary to satisfy legal, insurance, regulatory and other purposes as required. 
  • Responsible for administering any accounting systems employed by the department including assisting in the selection, design and implementation of any new systems.
  • Responsible for other special projects needed by the CFO and/or the executive team.
