Research Associate - Canada Excellence Research Chair in Metabolism and the Brain (CERC M&B)

Position Summary

The Research Associate works in collaboration with the CERC M&B Chairholder and core team members to develop and conduct research projects. In collaboration with the Chairholder, Associate Director, HQPs and trainees, the Research Associate is responsible for achieving the CERC M&B program objectives.

Research: Work with scientists, HQPs and students to develop experimental hypotheses, protocols and analysis plans.

Research: Participate in data collection and interpretation of results. Responsible for the quality and results of their own work. Oversee quality and results of team members supervised.

Research: Participate in the writing of grant applications and manuscripts and in the preparation of presentation of findings at scientific meetings.

Training: Train core team members on specialized procedures.

Reporting: Report on research projects progress at lab meetings.

Policies and Procedures: Write and maintain human subjects research protocols in good standing. Write and maintain best practices guide for study protocols.

Education: Assist in course development, teaching, workshops, journal clubs and annual meetings.

Qualifications:

Possesses advanced specialized knowledge of the field or discipline acquired through a PhD Degree.

Experience working in a multidisciplinary dynamic environment. Must be able to manage a diverse set of obligations on a daily basis with rapidly changing demands and priorities.

Strong interpersonal skills for working with participants and hospital research unit staff.

Ability to communicate complex ideas to trainees.

Ability to work independently and efficiently but also work well as a part of a team.

Strong verbal and written communication in English

Strong verbal and written communication in other languages would be an asset.
