Summary
The successful candidate for this full-time, tenure track Articulation Officer and Assistant Professor, Counseling position will provide articulation and counseling services under the direct supervision of the Manager, Counseling and Advising.
Position responsibilities include coordinating and managing articulation agreements between the college and four-year institutions, ensuring compliance with California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office regulations, and supporting curriculum development that facilitates student transfer and degree completion. Responsibilities also include providing academic, career, and personal counseling services to students to help them determine and achieve their academic, vocational, and personal goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Articulation responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide consultative support to faculty in the curriculum development and review process leading to course acceptance for transfer between College of the Redwoods (CR) and other academic institutions
  • Develop, maintain, and evaluate comprehensive articulation agreements with the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems, private universities and colleges in California, and out-of-state institutions
  • Submit and maintain accurate course data to manage course articulations using ASSIST, C-ID, TES, and other related statewide systems
  • Coordinate submission of courses and programs for California General Education Transfer Curriculum (CalGETC) certification
  • Maintain current expertise in California Community College articulation, transfer, and curriculum practices through participation in statewide professional development, including the California Intersegmental Articulation Council (CIAC) and the California Community Colleges Curriculum Institute
  • Contributes to the District's Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) work by providing articulation review and faculty assistance, when required, of student requests for credit based on prior learning, including project-based learning
  • Serves on the Academic Senate Curriculum Committee and as a District representative at local and state articulation and transfer meetings (including CIAC)
  • Maintains articulation files/documentation to assure compliance with all regulations that govern intersegmental articulation of curriculum for transfer purposes
  • Maintains, revises, and produces annual general education worksheets and AP/IB exam scores chart for course catalog requirements
  • Additional professional assignments include participation in faculty/college committees, curriculum and program development, and related duties as required or assigned
Counseling responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide students with presentations, workshops, career and educational goal setting, educational planning, and ongoing follow-up services
  • Provide students with assistance in assessing abilities, aptitudes, interests, work values systems, and personality patterns related to occupations and careers
  • Participate in department meetings and work groups that develop, evaluate and deliver services that support student success
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of orientation and outreach activities
  • Maintain current knowledge of counseling practices, methods, and techniques
  • Proficient use of computers, common software, and related educational and curriculum technologies
  • Develop and review of curriculum as well as including assessment of learning
  • Refer students to appropriate campus and community resources and services
  • Provide brief individual counseling and crisis intervention support to assist students in resolving personal problems
  • Accept referrals from teaching faculty and other college personnel
  • Confer with teaching faculty regarding individual students when appropriate.

Assignments may include evening and weekend hours and teaching study-skills and career decision making classes (including credit, noncredit, and online).
Qualifications
Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent. (NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in curriculum, articulation, counseling, admissions, instructional services, or academic affairs
  • Ability to utilize a variety of technology tools, student information systems, curriculum development and articulation tracking, and online resources to effectively support students
  • Knowledge of articulation practices, curriculum structures, general education patterns, Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs), Common Course Numbering (CCN), Credit for Prior Learning, and C-ID processes
  • Recent (within three years) successful academic/personal counseling experience in an educational setting, preferably community college
  • Recent experience counseling with and/or demonstrated understanding of the issues faced by veterans, foster or former foster youth, basic skills students, first generation college students, students with disabilities, and other underrepresented groups
  • Recent career counseling experience which includes interpreting results of career inventories
  • Experience developing education plans for career education and transfer students seeking admission to University of California (UC), California State University (CSU), and private universities
  • Experience working collaboratively with administration, faculty across disciplines, and staff across service areas to support curriculum development, articulation needs, and campus policies and procedures as they relate to the role

Placement of all faculty will be determined by Class (column) and Step as described below:
Class I: AA + 6 years occupational experience; and BA + 2 years of occupational experience.
Class II: MA; BA + 30 units post BA; BA + 4 years occupational experience; AA + 8 years occupational experience.
Class III: MA with 50 units post BA; BA + 50 units post BA; BA + 6 years occupational experience; AA + 10 years occupational experience.
Class IV: MA with 70 units post BA; BA + 70 units post BA; BA + 8 years occupational experience. 3.9.2.1 For all Classes, all degrees and units must be from regionally accredited (or equivalent) institutions of higher education.
3.9.2.2 For Classes III and IV, all units beyond a Bachelor's Degree must be upper division or graduate level semester units (or equivalent) earned subsequent to the granting of the Bachelor's Degree.
3.9.2.3 Nursing faculty and those faculty whose initial assignment is in disciplines the Minimum qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges identifies as "disciplines in which a master's degree is not generally expected or available" may be credited in class placement for years of full-time, paid occupational experience. 3.9.2.3.1 Full-time, paid occupational experience as an apprentice qualifies for credit toward column placement.
3.9.2.3.2 Experience as a teaching or laboratory assistant does not count towards initial salary placement.
3.9.2.3.3 Experience years as an intern paid or unpaid do not count as occupation years.
3.9.3 Step Placement: Up to seven steps may be credited to a faculty member for prior teaching experience. Maximum step placement for teaching experience is step 7.
3.9.3.1 Credit for college teaching experience will be computed as one step for each one year of experience.
3.9.3.2 Credit for high school teaching experience will be computed as one step for each two years of experience.
3.9.4 Initial salary schedule placement for a faculty member occurs prior to the first day of employment with the District as a faculty member. Documentation of education and of prior work experience that may affect initial class and step placement must be submitted to the Office of Human Resources within 30 days of signing the Initial Employment Agreement. Only work experience completed prior to the first day of employment with the district can be considered. The District shall provide notice to new faculty of this requirement. If documentation is received after the 30 days, changes to step/ class placement will take effect the following semester.
3.9.5 Step Advancement: Faculty will advance one step per year of paid service with the District.
Note: Non-U.S. citizens who cannot provide evidence of authorization to work in the U.S. are ineligible for this position. The Redwoods Community College District does not sponsor non-U.S. citizens to work in the U.S.
