Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Professor in American Government and Urban Politics at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
The Department of Political Science at Wayne State University has a full-time (9-month) tenure-track opening at the level of Assistant Professor in American Government and Urban Politics, to begin on or about August 18, 2027.
We seek candidates whose scholarship investigates contemporary issues in American and urban politics. A successful candidate will conduct research and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in American government and urban politics. Specifically, applicants will be required to teach courses in American Politics, Urban Politics (including Detroit politics), and African American Politics or Race, Class, and Politics. Special consideration will be given to candidates who can teach courses with community engagement in the Detroit metropolitan area. The standard teaching load is 2:2 (fall/winter semesters).
Wayne State University is an urban-serving, premier research university in Detroit, Michigan. WSU is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a RU/VH (Research University, Very High research activity) institution and serves more than 24,000 students across 370 academic programs. The Department of Political Science offers a BA in political science, a BS in public affairs, a graduate certificate in nonprofit management, an MPA program, and MA/Ph.D. programs in political science. Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in political science, public administration, or a related field by the time of the appointment.
