Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Natural Sciences is seeking excellent candidatesfor a tenure track position for the Assistant Professor Rank inBiotechnology with extensive research experience at both thedoctoral and postdoctoral level, with active and recentpublications in the field of discipline.. The successfulcandidate should have sound/extensive knowledge and researchexperience in Plant Biotechnology that includes gene cloning, geneediting (preferred), transfection, tissue culture, and hardening.The candidate should be well versed in troubleshooting plant tissueculture and greenhouse-related issues. The successful candidateshould have experience in writing grants. The candidate willsupport departmental core course instruction for graduate studentsin plant biotechnology, advanced molecular biology, tissue culture,and cell biology, specific to plant sciences. The candidate shouldalso be able to provide instruction to undergraduate students, asneeded. The candidate will establish a productive and vibrantstudent-based research program in the area of Plant Biotechnology,will contribute to scholarly research activities, and will providementorship to both graduate and undergraduate students in researchactivities. The candidate will also support various departmentalservices such as active contributions to student advisement and thepromotion of the graduate program to undergraduate students andexternal partners. Candidate must be ready to be an activeparticipant in departmental and University-wide committees. Ourstudent-focused department requires a candidate with a strongcommitment to excellence in teaching and coordination, who canactively engage in research and writing grants. The candidateshould:

  • Provide instruction in Biology/Plant Biotechnology courses andrelated advanced-level electives with a strong commitment tocurriculum transformation and excellence in teaching.
  • Establish a productive, student-centered, graduate andundergraduate research program in the area of biology, andbiotechnology, with an emphasis on research tools development.Incorporate learning activities into the research program.
  • Actively write scientific research grants to securefunding.
  • Active participant in scholarly activities, advisement, andmentorship of students, with active service on committees.

Experience
  • Postdoctoral fellowship experience in Animal/PlantBiotechnology is preferred.
  • Experience in teaching Introductory as well as advancedBiology/Biotechnology courses in the field are preferred.
Education
  • Ph.D. in Biotechnology or related field required.
  • Postdoctoral fellowship experience in Biotechnology isrequired.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Strong research profile in Biology, with a focus onBiotechnology and related fields required.
  • Excellence in Biology/Biotechnology research, as shown byquality publications and articles in the top journalsrequired.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, anddemonstrated ability to work in teams.
  • Evidence of strong commitment to excellence in teaching,technology application in the classroom, and capability ofestablishing collaborative research programs involvingundergraduate students is preferred but not required
  • Evidence of experience spearheading or participating inexperiential learning models is a plus.
  • Experience working with various stakeholders, such as students,faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Experience working with underrepresented minorities in STEM ispreferred but not required.
  • Experience in obtaining funded grants is preferred.
  • A strong candidate will be a team player and will demonstrateleadership potential.
