Job description

Description

Green Garden Products, a subsidiary of Central Garden & Pet, the number one supplier of top-quality flower seeds and non-GMO vegetable seeds for the gardening industry, is now seeking a Production Supervisor for the Norton, MA facility. This is a first shift, Exempt, full-time position. The pay for this position ranges from $45,000 - $65,000 depending upon experience.

The area Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating the production staff and activities and floating between the Machine operations and the Packing areas.  This position requires a hands-on ability to manage workflow.  This is a working supervisor position and as such will be expected to fill in and help as needed in all areas.  This position includes managing line leads, operators and approximately 30 temporary employees in Norton MA. 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure a safe and productive working environment and that all safety procedures are followed
  • Demonstrates ownership and practical knowledge of all applicable daily responsibilities to make sound decisions and execute quality oversight to ensure production flow
  • Supervise area employees in performance, behavior and safety while ensuring operations are as efficient as possible, minimizing downtime
  • In the absence of key personnel, the Supervisor is responsible to complete or delegate the completion of required tasks and responsibilities of the missing person
  • Responsible for overseeing performance plans, work schedules, vacations, assignments and special projects, as well as managing the training and personnel development
  • Oversee all paperwork flow and ensure thoroughness
  • Supervise production area to company standards, optimizing daily expectations
  • Must be able to work independently, while also exercising good judgement to know when to ask questions and/or seek help
  • Other duties as assigned to assist production and operations

Display Packing:

  • Conduct quality inspections and work to prevent process or product failures.
  • Focus on continuous improvement of product quality through attention to process details and specifications
  • Able to independently perform initial assessment of component quality, determining pass/fail or whether materials might need additional scrutiny
  • Machine Filling:
  • Assist with the maintenance of machinery to support employees and production
  • Ensure inventory transactions are completed timely and accurately
  • Identify process improvement opportunities using mechanical aptitude
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required
  • 2-3 years’ supervisory experience in production or manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated safety leadership, integrity and ethics
  • Working knowledge of operational production processes
  • Ability to multi-task, be decisive and operate in an ever changing and fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail with good problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead a group; bilingual preferred
  • Strong computer skills including Excel and manufacturing reporting
  • Ability and experience operating fork trucks, pallet jacks and/or hand trucks
  • Mathematical capabilities to confidently perform time measurement tracking
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. 
  • Work is conducted in a warehouse environment with temperature changes depending on the season.
