POSITION: Delivery Driver and Production Operator

LOCATION: Based out of HQ, Santa Cruz, CA

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Operations Supervisor

HOURLY RATE: $20.25-24.00


Position Summary

With this simple truth and responsibility we are bridging the gap from farmlevel to streetlevel. We are currently seeking a dedicated Delivery Driver and Production Operator to join our team.


As a Delivery Driver and Production Operator, you will play an integral part in the day-to-day performance of Verve Coffee Roasters Operations, with 60% of the time as a Delivery Driver and 40% of the time as a Production Operator.
Delivery Driver (60%): Dynamic, active, customer-facing, on-the-road & on-the-floor. You will be facilitating deliveries of all Verve products to our amazing wholesale customers, as well as our own cafes. This position requires someone with previous experience in a customer-facing role, with strong people skills. The delivery of our products isn't just a "drop-off" service, but an extremely important part of the customer's experience, as this may be the only face-to-face contact/association customers have with our brand. As a brand ambassador, you may be asked to assist with an order issue and/or provide information about various Verve products. You will work closely with and be supported by both the Wholesale and Sales Operations teams.
Production Operator (40%): You will be working in our production facility, where you’ll join a team of energetic task-busters, assuring our coffee and merchandise orders are fulfilled and packaged to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and has outstanding time management skills, as this is a hands-on role that requires attention to detail and a strong work ethic.


Key Responsibilities

Deliver Driver 60%

  • Ensure all deliveries reach their destinations safely, securely, and on schedule.

  • Loading and unloading delivery vehicles using safe lifting techniques.

  • Build a warm rapport with customers offering as a trusted relationship, offering product knowledge and feedback to management as needed

  • Maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor, representing the Verve brand positively

  • Communicate and report any delivery issues to management

  • Maintain accurate documentation of deliveries, mileage, and fuel consumption.

  • Conduct routine checks on company vehicles and report any maintenance issues

  • Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations

  • Using additional equipment, such as forklifts, hand trucks and dollies, as needed

  • Support the Production floor on days when deliveries are completed before the scheduled shift ends


Production Operator 40%

  • Package products and fulfill orders to achieve daily output goals as assigned

  • Execute all filling and packaging procedures in a safe and efficient manner

  • Work as part of a fast-paced team

  • Show initiative, with an inclusive, positive and professional attitude

  • Adaptable with a willingness to learn and take direction

  • Safely operates handling equipment including, but not limited to, pallet jack, forklift, walkie stacker, and ladder

  • Load outbound freight efficiently and safely

  • Operate weigh and fill machines, band sealers, scales and grinders with efficiency

  • Perform quality checks to ensure every bag of coffee is up to Verve’s quality standards

  • Maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment

  • Assist with inventory counts and cycle counts as needed

  • Performs other general warehouse duties as assigned by department manager

  • Follow all safety procedures and protocols


Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record

  • Previous experience as a delivery driver or in a similar role.

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy items up to 50 lbs..

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

  • Familiarity with GPS devices and local area knowledge.

  • Ability to think on your feet and resolve issues independently.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Basic Google Drive, Google Sheets, Microsoft Word and Excel skills

  • Proactive mindset, a problem solver with the ability to work independently and a strong attention to detail.

  • Experience in a customer-facing role. Comfortability with in-person customer service, demonstrating the ability to build positive relationships with customers

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements

During the performance of duties, employees are expected to engage in regular communication, auditory perception, and reading tasks. This role is dynamic and involves prolonged periods of standing (or being on one's feet for up to 8 hours), walking, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, and crouching throughout the shift. Additionally, employees will be required to lift products and packaging overhead and may frequently handle items weighing between 25 and 70 pounds. Essential vision capabilities for this role encompass close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Furthermore, adept finger and wrist dexterity are essential for successful performance in this position.
